Psalm 97

What reasons to praise God are found in this psalm? How should God’s people live (10,12)?

Do I praise God for His sovereign power, majesty, and protection? Do I hate evil and love God? Is my heart glad in the Lord?

Pray today’s Scripture back to God:
Dear Father in Heaven, You reign! Let the earth rejoice; let the many coasts and islands be glad. Clouds and thick darkness surround You; righteousness and justice are the foundation of Your throne. Fire goes before You and burns up Your foes on every side. Your lightning lights up the world; the earth sees and trembles. The mountains melt like wax at Your presence, Lord of all the earth. The heavens proclaim Your righteousness; all the peoples see Your glory. All who serve and boast in false gods or atheism or secularism will be put to shame. All beings must worship You. Zion hears and is glad, and the towns of Judah rejoice because of Your judgments, LORD. For You, LORD, are the Most High over all the earth; You are exalted above all the gods. Increase my love for You and my hatred of evil! You protect the lives of Your godly ones; You rescue them from the hand of the wicked. Light dawns for the righteous, gladness for the upright in heart. I am glad in You, LORD, and I praise Your holy name. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Pray to BLESS!

One good way to pray for people is to use the acronym BLESS to pray for God’s blessing on every area of their lives:

  • B – BODY (physical health)
  • L – Labor (their job or school)
  • E – Emotions (emotional health as well as guarding against letting emotions rule)
  • S – Social (relationships with family, friends, co-workers, neighbors, church, etc)
  • S – Spiritual (remaining true to God and growing in Him)

Spend some time praying for the following people and ministries:

  • Mike & Jamie Haberkorn (Hannah, Sean)
  • Deborah Halkola
  • David & MaryBeth Hollander (Cole, Marcus)
  • Bob & Peggy Hoover

  • Chrysalis Women’s Transitional Housing

Operation Christmas Child:

  • Pray that the boxes will open doors for children to hear the Good News in parts of the world that are typically closed to proclaiming the Gospel.

  • Pray that we would be a church that is dedicated to the breaking of bread, both in the sense of being devoted to observing the Lord’s Supper, and in meeting together for meals to fellowship, to deepen bonds, to heal offenses, and to end disputes.

Community: Rural towns in Treasure Valley – Emmett, Greenleaf, Homedale, Marsing, Middleton, New Plymouth, Parma, Payette, Wilder, Weiser, etc…

  • That city leaders would submit to God
  • That people can find and keep gainful employment
  • For sound financial management by city officials
  • Salvation for unbelievers
  • For the mayor, city council members, and public works officials

For we were all baptized by one Spirit into one body–whether Jews or Greeks, whether slaves or free–and we were all made to drink of one Spirit. – 1 Corinthians 12:13 (HCSB)
