Luke 2:8-20

Click here to read today’s passage on Bible Gateway

What was did the angels do after giving God’s message to the Shepherds? How did the shepherds respond to this message (15-16)? What did they do after seeing the message fulfilled (17, 20)?

Do I rejoice in being chosen as a messenger of the Word of God? Do I respond in obedience to His word? Do I rejoice and tell others what God has done, and how He always keeps His promises?

Pray today’s Scripture back to God:
Dear Father, Thank You for the “gladsome tidings” brought by Your angel on that first Christmas night! May I, like Your angels rejoice and praise you, not only for the magnificent and joyous gift of your son, but also for the privilege of being able to relay the Good News! May I, like the shepherds, respond in obedience to what your word says, and testify to its truthfulness and accuracy, glorifying and praising You as the One True God who always fulfills His promises! Thank You for the Savior, and thank You for saving me! In Jesus’ name, Amen!

Pray to BLESS!

One good way to pray for people is to use the acronym BLESS to pray for God’s blessing on every area of their lives:

  • B – BODY (physical health)
  • L – Labor (their job or school)
  • E – Emotions (emotional health as well as guarding against letting emotions rule)
  • S – Social (relationships with family, friends, co-workers, neighbors, church, etc)
  • S – Spiritual (remaining true to God and growing in Him)

Spend some time praying for the following people and ministries:

  • Ken & Twilla Eden (Mattea, Joseph, Joshua, Sophia, Jonathan)
  • Gil & Lois Estes
  • Gary Friend
  • Scott & Kristi Guinn (Josiah)

  • J & G Simon, missionaries to Austria

Operation Christmas Child:

  • Pray that God will use Operation Christmas Child to bring joy to boys and girls who are facing poverty, sickness, or war.

  • Ask that we would be a church that is devoted to true fellowship: Pray that we would be encouraged from being united with Christ, comforted by His love, bonded with His Spirit, tender and compassionate with one another. Pray that we would be like-minded, having the same love, being one in spirit and purpose. Ask that we would do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit, but in humility consider one another better than ourselves, looking not only to our own interests, but also to the interests of each other. Pray that we would all have the same attitude as that of Christ Jesus.

Community: Pray for Public Service Professionals (Firefighters, law enforcement, and medical personnel)…

  • Strength to serve well
  • Safety/health
  • Salvation for lost & ministry opportunities for saved
  • Strong family/marriage relationships
  • Strong, God-honoring friendships
