Psalm 128-130

Click here to read today’s passage on Bible Gateway

What is the secret to true happiness (Psalm 128)? What does God do to those who afflict His people (Psalm 129)? For what is the psalmist so grateful in Psalm 130?

Do I try to attain happiness via my own devices, or do I follow the Lord? Do I trust God to ultimately deliver his people from their enemies? Am I grateful for his forgiveness and redemption?

Pray today’s Scripture back to God:

Father God, Lead me to walk in your ways, for my happiness and for Your glory. May You grant peace to Israel and to all who are Yours. Drive back the enemies of Yourself and Your people. LORD, if You considered sins, who could stand? But with You there is forgiveness, so that You may be revered. I wait for You, LORD; I wait, and put my hope in Your word. I put my hope in You, LORD. For there is faithful love with You, and redemption in abundance. And You will redeem Your people from all their sins. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Pray to BLESS!

One good way to pray for people is to use the acronym BLESS to pray for God’s blessing on every area of their lives:

  • B – BODY (physical health)
  • L – Labor (their job or school)
  • E – Emotions (emotional health as well as guarding against letting emotions rule)
  • S – Social (relationships with family, friends, co-workers, neighbors, church, etc)
  • S – Spiritual (remaining true to God and growing in Him)

Spend some time praying for the following people and ministries:

  • Pat & Hannah Kelley
  • Darrell & Fralina Leatham
  • Fred & Shirley Leonard
  • Mark & Michelle Morgan (Cody, Kyle)

  • Genesis World Mission

Operation Christmas Child:

  • Pray for the children who enroll in “The Greatest Journey” follow-up discipleship program, that they will come to faith in Jesus and tell their friends and family about Jesus.

  • That we will devote ourselves to prayer, individually, in small groups, and as a church.

Community: Pray for the relationship between generations–parents, children, grandparents

  • That the true Christian faith of older generation would be clearly communicated and passed down to children
  • That saved children in unsaved families would clearly exhibit and communicate the faith to their parents and grandparents
  • A harvest of souls of all ages
  • Good, nurturing relationships

Why am I so depressed? Why this turmoil within me? Put your hope in God, for I will still praise Him, my Savior and my God. – Psalm 42:11 (HCSB)
