1 Timothy 4

What things did Paul instruct Timothy to point out to the brothers? Why? To what was Timothy told to pay close attention? Why?

Do I defend biblical teaching and refute unbiblical teaching? Do I pay close attention to my life and the message I share about Christ and His word? Are my motives pure?

Pray today’s Scripture back to God:
Dear Father in Heaven, May I never forget that there are many, many false teachers afoot, carrying out the ministry of Satan in the guise of Christians. Help me to discern them and reject them. May I never accept any teaching that contradicts Your word or that says that the good You have created is evil. May I keep myself and everything in my life sanctified by Your word and by prayer, training myself in godliness that I might have nothing to do with irreverent and silly myths. Help me to be an example to the believers in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith, in purity. Help me to practice these things and be committed to them, so that my progress may be evident to all. Help me to pay close attention to my life and my teaching, and to persevere in these things, for by doing this it will save both myself and my hearers. In Jesus’ name, Amen!

Pray to BLESS!

One good way to pray for people is to use the acronym BLESS to pray for God’s blessing on every area of their lives:

  • B – BODY (physical health)
  • L – Labor (their job or school)
  • E – Emotions (emotional health as well as guarding against letting emotions rule)
  • S – Social (relationships with family, friends, co-workers, neighbors, church, etc)
  • S – Spiritual (remaining true to God and growing in Him)

Spend some time praying for the following people and ministries:

  • David & MaryBeth Hollander (Cole, Marcus)
  • Bob & Peggy Hoover
  • Fred & Gwen Iovine
  • Pat & Hannah Kelley

  • Chrysalis Women’s Transitional Housing

  • Pray that we would be a church that is dedicated to the breaking of bread, both in the sense of being devoted to observing the Lord’s Supper, and in meeting together for meals to fellowship, to deepen bonds, to heal offenses, and to end disputes.

Community: Pray for young children in our community

  • For Godly influences
  • For safety and protection from accidents, abuse, and predators
  • Salvation for unbelievers
  • For a heart to learn and to know God from a young age
  • That they will not be prodigals, but remain true to God all the days of their lives

instruct certain people not to teach different doctrine or to pay attention to myths and endless genealogies. These promote empty speculations rather than God’s plan, which operates by faith. – 1 Timothy 1:3b-4 (HCSB)
