Matthew 8:18-34

Click here to read today’s passage on Bible Gateway

What was Jesus’ point in verses 18-22? Why are verses 23-27 important? Why are verses 28-34 important?

Do I make Jesus my top priority? Do I recognize that He is sovereign over the earth and nature? Do I acknowledge and praise Him for His power and sovereignty over even the forces of Satan?

Pray today’s Scripture back to God:
Dear Father in Heaven, Help me to make following Jesus my highest priority, above all else! For He is sovereign ruler over the earth and nature and over the powers of darkness, and He died in my place that I could live for and with You! In Jesus’ name, Amen!

Pray to BLESS!

One good way to pray for people is to use the acronym BLESS to pray for God’s blessing on every area of their lives:

  • B – BODY (physical health)
  • L – Labor (their job or school)
  • E – Emotions (emotional health as well as guarding against letting emotions rule)
  • S – Social (relationships with family, friends, co-workers, neighbors, church, etc)
  • S – Spiritual (remaining true to God and growing in Him)

Spend some time praying for the following people and ministries:

  • David & MaryBeth Hollander (Cole, Marcus)
  • Bob & Peggy Hoover
  • Fred & Gwen Iovine
  • Pat & Hannah Kelley

  • Chrysalis Women’s Transitional Housing

  • Pray that we would be a church that is dedicated to the breaking of bread, both in the sense of being devoted to observing the Lord’s Supper, and in meeting together for meals to fellowship, to deepen bonds, to heal offenses, and to end disputes.

Community: Pray for our national leaders

  • God’s anointing on them and a desire in them to follow Him
  • For Jesus to once again be Lord and King over our nation
  • For the president and cabinet to seek after God
  • For judges to rule justly and righteously
  • For senators & representatives to pass godly legislation and block sinful bills
  • That our government would protect its citizens and punish evildoers

But be careful that this right of yours in no way becomes a stumbling block to the weak. – 1 Corinthians 8:9 (HCSB)
