Matthew 14

Why did Herod fear Jesus? What does the death of John the Baptist show us about those who teach that if one is in God’s will he won’t have any difficulties? Why is the miracle of feeding the 5000 important? What is significant about the narrative of Jesus walking on the water?

Am I committed to follow God and speak out for Him when the Spirit leads, even if it might mean I end up like John the Baptist? Do I trust God to supply all my needs and to abundantly bless and use what I offer to Him? Do I keep my eyes fixed on Jesus, or do I allow the cares of this life to distract me?

Dear Father, Thank You for your servant John the Baptist, who prepared the way for Jesus, and who spoke out for Your word even though it got him killed. May I follow his example. Remove my unbelief, Lord, that I would trust You to provide and to bless. Help me to keep my eyes fixed on Jesus, and not be distracted by the circumstances of this life. In Jesus’ name, Amen!

Pray to BLESS!

One good way to pray for people is to use the acronym BLESS to pray for God’s blessing on every area of their lives:

  • B – BODY (physical health)
  • L – Labor (their job or school)
  • E – Emotions (emotional health as well as guarding against letting emotions rule)
  • S – Social (relationships with family, friends, co-workers, neighbors, church, etc)
  • S – Spiritual (remaining true to God and growing in Him)

Spend some time praying for the following people and ministries.

  • Moy & Janeth Ortiz
  • Doug & Pam Patchin
  • Jared & Amanda Patchin (Alex, Luc)
  • Keith Rast

  • Boise Rescue Mission

  • That we will be people who are devoted to giving to the Lord’s work and to anyone who has a need.

Community: Pray for Star and Eagle

  • That city leaders would submit to God
  • That people can find and keep gainful employment
  • For sound financial management by city officials
  • Salvation for unbelievers
  • For the mayor, city council members, and public works officials

Although I am a free man and not anyone’s slave, I have made myself a slave to everyone, in order to win more people. – 1 Corinthians 9:19 (HCSB)
