Matthew 18:1-14

Click here to read today’s passage on Bible Gateway

What was Jesus’ response to the disciples’ question of who would be the greatest in heaven? What was His point in verses 8-9? What is the point of the Parable of the Lost Sheep?

Am I focused on trying to attain greatness for my own gratification through my own efforts, or am I more interested in eternal greatness that comes from humility and childlike faith in Christ? Am I willing to do whatever is necessary (within the confines of the Word and the Spirit’s leading) to keep from being a stumbling block to others?

Pray today’s Scripture back to God:
Dear Father in Heaven, Give me a heart of childlike faith and humility that is more concerned with serving You and serving others than gaining power, prestige, or position for myself. May I never be a stumbling block to others, except to the lost who see the cross of Jesus Christ as a stumbling block. In Jesus’ name, Amen!

Pray to BLESS!

One good way to pray for people is to use the acronym BLESS to pray for God’s blessing on every area of their lives:

  • B – BODY (physical health)
  • L – Labor (their job or school)
  • E – Emotions (emotional health as well as guarding against letting emotions rule)
  • S – Social (relationships with family, friends, co-workers, neighbors, church, etc)
  • S – Spiritual (remaining true to God and growing in Him)

Spend some time praying for the following people and ministries:

  • David & MaryBeth Hollander (Cole, Marcus)
  • Bob & Peggy Hoover
  • Fred & Gwen Iovine
  • Pat & Hannah Kelley

  • Chrysalis Women’s Transitional Housing

  • Pray that we would be a church that is dedicated to the breaking of bread, both in the sense of being devoted to observing the Lord’s Supper, and in meeting together for meals to fellowship, to deepen bonds, to heal offenses, and to end disputes.

Community: Pray for business professionals providing goods and services

  • God to be glorified by excellent work
  • Ministry to occur in the workplace
  • Godly employers and employees
  • Salvation for unbelievers
  • Sound financial strategies
  • Strong, God-honoring relationships

Then Jesus said to His disciples, “If anyone wants to come with Me, he must deny himself, take up his cross, and follow Me. For whoever wants to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life because of Me will find it. – Matthew 16:24-25 (HCSB)
