2 Corinthians 8

Paul points out in this chapter that at least in one way, comparing ourselves with others is a good thing–in what way? What does he mean when he says “finish the work”?

Would others consider me a generous person? Do I excel in the grace of giving? If not, in what specific ways can I begin to move toward that goal?

Pray today’s Scripture back to God:

Lord God, Thank You for Your grace in giving generously to Your people. May I ever be like You in that regard. In severe trials may my extreme joy in You well up in rich generosity, even beyond my ability, that I may have the privilege of sharing in service to the saints. May I give myself first to You and then to Your servants, in keeping with Your will. I ask that Your Spirit would grow me to excel in faith, speech, knowledge, earnestness, and in love for Your people, and also in the grace of giving. For I know the grace of my Lord Jesus Christ, that though He was rich, yet for my sake He became poor, that through His poverty I might become rich. May I start well, and then finish the work, eagerly completing it. May I do so with a willing heart, so the gift is acceptable according to what I have, for You do not judge me based on what I do not have. May I give to honor You and show my eagerness to help. I ask these things in Jesus’ Name, Amen!

Pray to BLESS!

One good way to pray for people is to use the acronym BLESS to pray for God’s blessing on every area of their lives:

  • B – BODY (physical health)
  • L – Labor (their job or school)
  • E – Emotions (emotional health as well as guarding against letting emotions rule)
  • S – Social (relationships with family, friends, co-workers, neighbors, church, etc)
  • S – Spiritual (remaining true to God and growing in Him)

Spend some time praying for the following people and ministries:

  • Darrell & Fralina Leatham
  • Fred & Shirley Leonard
  • Tris & Chris Miller
  • Mark & Michelle Morgan (Cody, Kyle)
  • Michael & Jenn Morgan

  • Genesis World Mission

  • That we will devote ourselves to prayer, individually, in small groups, and as a church.

Community: Pray for Kuna…

  • That city leaders would submit to God
  • That people can find and keep gainful employment
  • For sound financial management by city officials
  • Salvation for unbelievers
  • For the mayor, city council members, and public works officials

Therefore, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do everything for God’s glory. – 1 Corinthians 10:31 (HCSB)
