Scripture

2 Corinthians 11:16-12:10

Observation

Why does Paul share so much detail about his suffering for the gospel? How has the “thorn in his flesh” impacted his life?

Application

There are many “Christian” teachers who state that if we are walking with Christ in faith, we should never be sick, hurt, or in need. How does that teaching jibe with this passage?

Prayer

Pray today’s Scripture back to God:
Lord God, When I think about what Paul went through for the Gospel of Christ, I am in awe of the grace You gave him to continue with Your work. I confess that far too often I am ready to give up at the sight of the smallest obstacle. Strengthen me to follow Paul’s example, that I might persevere with a steadfast faith, rejoicing in the privilege of sharing the sufferings of Christ. Help me to boast only of my weakness and Your strength. Help me to continue walking in faith, even if You choose to allow a thorn in the flesh to remain. I affirm that You are good and You word is true, and I believe that Your grace is sufficient for me, for Your power is made perfect in weakness. Therefore, I boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christs’s power may rest in me. Help me, for Christ’s sake, to delight in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties, for when I am weak, then I am strong. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

Pray to BLESS!
One good way to pray for people is to use the acronym BLESS to pray for God’s blessing on every area of their lives:

  • B – BODY (physical health)
  • L – Labor (their job or school)
  • E – Emotions (emotional health as well as guarding against letting emotions rule)
  • S – Social (relationships with family, friends, co-workers, neighbors, church, etc)
  • S – Spiritual (remaining true to God and growing in Him)

Spend some time praying for the following people and ministries:

  • Theresa Daniels
  • Brandon & Lindsey Dockins
  • Patti Doty
  • Ken & Twilla Eden (Mattea, Joseph, Joshua, Sophia, Jonathan)
  • Gil & Lois Estes

Missionaries:

  • Tim & Miranda Penn (Samid, Sarah), missionaries to Albania

CLF:

  • That Christian Life Fellowship would be a church that is devoted to the Word of God, and that we would be doers of it and not just hearers; that we would study the Word and so always be prepared to give everyone an answer–in season and out of season–and be approved workers who do not need to be ashamed, able to accurately understand and explain it.

Community: Pray for Star and Eagle

  • That city leaders would submit to God
  • That people can find and keep gainful employment
  • For sound financial management by city officials
  • Salvation for unbelievers
  • For the mayor, city council members, and public works officials
