Acts 7

Why did Stephen go through Israel’s history in his speech before the high priest? Other passages in the New Testament tell us that Jesus is seated at God’s right hand (showing that His work was completed), yet Stephen saw Him standing–what is the significance of this? Just before his death, how does Stephen show he is a true follower of Jesus?

How do I see God’s work through history in relation to His work through me? How can I better show that I am a true follower of Christ?

Pray today’s Scripture back to God:
Dear Father God, I thank You for the way You have shown Your mighty hand down through history. I am truly blessed to have such a spiritual heritage. I thank You that all of history since The Creation led up to the appearance of Jesus of Nazareth, and all of history since His ascension is leading up to His imminent return. I confess that I am too often a stiff-necked person with an uncircumcised heart and ears, and too often I resist the Holy Spirit–and I repent of this. I thank You for Your servant Stephen who willingly gave His life for Jesus, and was faithful to the end, even forgiving his murderers and asking that You also forgive them. Lord, give me a heart, a spirit, a will, and a faith like that. I thank You, Lord Jesus, that You stood up to receive Stephen into Heaven, and I look forward with great hope to the day You will do the same for me. Amen!

Pray to BLESS!

One good way to pray for people is to use the acronym BLESS to pray for God’s blessing on every area of their lives:

  • B – BODY (physical health)
  • L – Labor (their job or school)
  • E – Emotions (emotional health as well as guarding against letting emotions rule)
  • S – Social (relationships with family, friends, co-workers, neighbors, church, etc)
  • S – Spiritual (remaining true to God and growing in Him)

Spend some time praying for the following people and ministries:

  • Robin & Florence Henderson
  • David & MaryBeth Hollander (Cole, Marcus)
  • Bob & Peggy Hoover
  • Pat & Hannah Kelley
  • Darrell & Fralina Leatham

  • Chrysalis Women’s Transitional Housing

  • Pray that we would be a church that is dedicated to the breaking of bread, both in the sense of being devoted to observing the Lord’s Supper, and in meeting together for meals to fellowship, to deepen bonds, to heal offenses, and to end disputes.

Community: Pray for Unity in the Body of Christ…

  • that we would be united in our love for Jesus and each other
  • that we would encourage and support each other
  • that we would focus on Biblical principles in every arena of our lives
  • that we would have a spirit of cooperation in outreach
  • that Satan’s divisive strategies would be confounded

Now these three remain: faith, hope, and love. But the greatest of these is love. – 1 Corinthians 13:13 (HCSB)
