Acts 19

Click here to read today’s passage on Bible Gateway

Throughout Acts, what seems to be the factor that causes Paul to come to a point where he stops teaching in a city’s synagogue? What caused the riot in Ephesus?

In what ways has God shown when to stop and when to go in sharing the Gospel? What can I learn from this passage about seeing sin as God does and responding to it properly?

Pray today’s Scripture back to God:

Father, I thank You for John’s baptism of repentance, but even more I thank You for Jesus’ baptism of the Holy Spirit, who indwells every true believer in Christ. Thank You for Your grace in bestowing the gift of the Spirit on me. Help me to recognize when people have hardened their hearts to the point where it is useless to continue talking to them, and urge me to move on to those who are seeking You. I pray there will come a day in my city, as there did in this province in today’s chapter, where all who live in the area have heard the Word of the Lord. Make me and other disciples faithful to carry out this mission. May You work mightily so that believers and unbelievers alike will see that You are an awesome God and fear You and hold the name of Jesus in high honor. May we repent of our wicked ways and follow You completely, and in this way, may the Word of the Lord flourish and prevail. May we serve You and You alone, even if the masses riot against us, for You alone are worthy. In Jesus’ Name, Amen!

Pray to BLESS!

One good way to pray for people is to use the acronym BLESS to pray for God’s blessing on every area of their lives:

  • B – BODY (physical health)
  • L – Labor (their job or school)
  • E – Emotions (emotional health as well as guarding against letting emotions rule)
  • S – Social (relationships with family, friends, co-workers, neighbors, church, etc)
  • S – Spiritual (remaining true to God and growing in Him)

Spend some time praying for the following people and ministries:

  • Robin & Florence Henderson
  • David & MaryBeth Hollander (Cole, Marcus)
  • Bob & Peggy Hoover
  • Pat & Hannah Kelley
  • Darrell & Fralina Leatham

  • Chrysalis Women’s Transitional Housing

  • Pray that we would be a church that is dedicated to the breaking of bread, both in the sense of being devoted to observing the Lord’s Supper, and in meeting together for meals to fellowship, to deepen bonds, to heal offenses, and to end disputes.

Community: Pray for County leaders…

  • Commissioners, Assessor, Coroner, Treasurer, Clerks, Judges, Prosecutors, Defenders, Sheriffs
  • that they would make sound financial decisions
  • that they would all be faithful in carrying out their duties justly
  • that they would submit themselves to God

Therefore, be imitators of God, as dearly loved children. And walk in love, as the Messiah also loved us and gave Himself for us, a sacrificial and fragrant offering to God. – Ephesians 5:1-2 (HCSB)
