In Paul’s farewell to the Ephesian elders, we see how he ministered. List the things Paul did/went through in his ministry at Ephesus. What did he instruct the elders to do in his absence?

What can I apply from the way Paul lived and served in Ephesus to the way I live and serve in my daily life? Though I may or may not be an elder in the church, has God placed people (a “flock”) in my life to whom I can apply the principles of service that Paul committed to the Ephesus elders?

Pray today’s Scripture back to God:

My Father and my God, As I go through this life, may I, like Paul, be an encouragement to others, especially those of the faith. Whether coming or going or staying, help me to be encouraging rather than discouraging. By Your Spirit, give me just the right words to build up others when they need it most. I ask, too, Lord, that I would be awake and alert to Your Word, even when it becomes hard work and my flesh wants rest. Please help to me to serve You as Paul did: transparently, with humility, even with tears when appropriate, persevering on the face of difficulty and opposition. May I never hesitate to share Your Word to help others when the opportunity arises, publicly or privately. May I always be ready to proclaim to people of every background that they must turn to You in repentance and have faith in our Lord Jesus. Help me to consider my life worth nothing to me, if only I may finish the race and complete the task Jesus has given me–testifying to the Gospel of Your grace. Help me to keep watch over myself and those You have placed under my care, shepherding other believers You have placed in my life. Help me to be on my guard against those who would try to distort the truth of Your Word, and help me to instruct others who find themselves listening to such deceit. Father, make me committed to You and to the Word of Your grace, which can build me up and give me an inheritance among those that are sanctified. Help me to work hard, and in everything I do to help the weak, remembering that Jesus said it is better to give than to receive. In His Name I pray, Amen!

Pray to BLESS!

One good way to pray for people is to use the acronym BLESS to pray for God’s blessing on every area of their lives:

  • B – BODY (physical health)
  • L – Labor (their job or school)
  • E – Emotions (emotional health as well as guarding against letting emotions rule)
  • S – Social (relationships with family, friends, co-workers, neighbors, church, etc)
  • S – Spiritual (remaining true to God and growing in Him)

Spend some time praying for the following people and ministries:

  • Fred & Shirley Leonard
  • Tris & Chris Miller
  • Mark & Michelle Morgan (Cody, Kyle)
  • Michael & Jenn Morgan

  • Genesis World Mission

  • That we will devote ourselves to prayer, individually, in small groups, and as a church.

Community: Pray for Mountain Home…

  • That city leaders would submit to God
  • That people can find and keep gainful employment
  • For sound financial management by city officials
  • Salvation for unbelievers
  • For the mayor, city council members, and public works officials
  • For the air base: safety for military and their families (especially those who are deployed), sound military strategies by commanders, impact for Christ in areas where deployed

Therefore, be imitators of God, as dearly loved children. And walk in love, as the Messiah also loved us and gave Himself for us, a sacrificial and fragrant offering to God. – Ephesians 5:1-2 (HCSB)
