Acts 28

Click here to read today’s passage on Bible Gateway

What did the islanders think when they saw the snake bite Paul, and what changed their minds? Why did Paul call a meeting with the local Jewish leaders when he arrived in Rome? What does verse 31 reveal about God’s plan to have Paul in Rome at this time?

What is a specific instance where I jumped to conclusions about the heart of someone based on their bad circumstances? What, if anything, caused me to change my mind? What can I learn about diplomacy within ministry from Paul’s example in Rome?

Pray today’s Scripture back to God:
Dear Heavenly Father, Like the blind man that Jesus and His disciples came upon in the Gospels (when Jesus said neither his own sin nor his parents’ sin were the reason he was blind), Paul had not done anything that caused this snake to bite him. I confess that I am sometimes like the islanders here in Acts 28, and I make assumptions about people when only You know their hearts. Keep me from rushing to judgment. Thank You for Your healing power. I ask that You would touch (names of people I know who are ill, injured, or disabled). Help me to be hospitable and encouraging to other believers, especially visitors and those who minister for You. I ask that You would give me wisdom to head off any difficulties I can when dealing with potential difficulties. May I welcome all who come to see me and preach the Gospel of Jesus Christ clearly, boldly, and without hindrance. In Jesus’ Name, Amen
