Acts 9

Click here to read today’s passage on Bible Gateway

What was Saul’s attitude toward Christianity before his encounter with Jesus versus after that encounter? What is the significance of Jesus’ declaration that Saul was persecuting Him? What was Ananias’ response to the instruction he received from the Lord? What was the response of other Christians and the Jews to Saul’s conversion?

How has my life changed and how does it continue to change as a result of my encounter with Christ? Do I consider that when I am being unkind and inconsiderate to another Christian, I’m doing that to Jesus? There was probably no one that the early church thought was less likely to come to Christ than Saul, yet he became their greatest evangelist, missionary, and teacher. What “impossible convert” in my life can I be praying will come to Christ?

Pray today’s Scripture back to God:
Lord, as we look at the conversion of Saul, we are amazed by Your grace, mercy, and love. It is astonishing that someone who tried to blot the church off the face of the earth could not only become a believer, but also one of history’s greatest heroes of the faith. Thank You for saving him and growing him into a man of God. Thank You for the legacy of his letters in Your Word, and all the mighty works You accomplished through him. Lord Jesus, You told Saul that by persecuting Your people he was persecuting You. Help me to remember that Your people are Your body on this earth, and what I do to them, I am doing to You. Help me to believe that even the worst opponents of You and Your church can be transformed by Your unending love and amazing grace. Help me to pray for the people in my life who are like that to come to You. Please make Yourself known to them and soften their hearts toward You. Do a mighty work in that regard, that You may be glorified. In the precious name of Jesus I ask this, Amen.

Pray to BLESS!

One good way to pray for people is to use the acronym BLESS to pray for God’s blessing on every area of their lives:

  • B – BODY (physical health)
  • L – Labor (their job or school)
  • E – Emotions (emotional health as well as guarding against letting emotions rule)
  • S – Social (relationships with family, friends, co-workers, neighbors, church, etc)
  • S – Spiritual (remaining true to God and growing in Him)

Spend some time praying for the following people and ministries.

  • Moy & Janeth Ortiz
  • Doug & Pam Patchin
  • Jared & Amanda Patchin (Alex, Luc)
  • Keith Rast
  • Travis & Consuela Sauer (Mikayla, Christian, Donte, Cheyenne, Sera, Ella, Thomas)

  • Boise Rescue Mission

  • That we will be people who are devoted to giving to the Lord’s work and to anyone who has a need.

Community: Pray for area pastors and their families:

  • Encouragement
  • Faithfulness in the Lord’s work
  • Finances
  • Marriage/family relationships
  • Work/life balance
  • Deep friendships and support from other Christian leaders

Now these three remain: faith, hope, and love. But the greatest of these is love. – 1 Corinthians 13:13 (HCSB)
