Acts 11

Click here to read today’s passage on Bible Gateway

How did Peter respond to the accusation by the Jewish Christians that he had been fraternizing with “uncircumcised men”? Why would Luke (the author of the book of Acts) take the time and space to record the events of the previous chapter again here? Why was Peter so careful to include the giving of the Holy Spirit in his explanation, and what was the response of the Jewish Christians? How did Barnabas respond to seeing that Gentiles in Antioch had become Christians?

What people can I reach with the Good News that my pastor or church could not? How would I respond upon hearing that my former enemies had accepted Christ? Am I ever “selfish” with the Gospel? If so, why, and what do I need to do to correct that?

Pray today’s Scripture back to God:
Father in Heaven, once again I see Your great grace exhibited to those who were far away from You. I thank You and praise You for that, Lord, for without it, I never could have come to You and been washed in the blood of Jesus and redeemed as Your child. Help me to reach out with Your love and grace and truth even to those that some other believers may negatively criticize. And when I hear that someone I don’t like or who has been an enemy comes to You, may I respond with great rejoicing and awe and wonder of Your grace. If at some point You call me to a distant land, through whatever means You see fit–whether as a missionary calling, merely a vacation trip, or something in between–may I take Your Gospel with me and be looking for opportunities to share it. I ask that Your hand will be with me wherever I go and whatever I do, and that as a result, a great number of people will believe and turn to You. Finally, Lord, I ask that You would motivate me and the people in my church, each according to our ability, to provide for brothers and sisters in need. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

Pray to BLESS!
One good way to pray for people is to use the acronym BLESS to pray for God’s blessing on every area of their lives:

  • B – BODY (physical health)
  • L – Labor (their job or school)
  • E – Emotions (emotional health as well as guarding against letting emotions rule)
  • S – Social (relationships with family, friends, co-workers, neighbors, church, etc)
  • S – Spiritual (remaining true to God and growing in Him)

Spend some time praying for the following people and ministries:

  • Theresa Daniels
  • Travis & Hali Davidson (Andrew, Maddy)
  • Brandon & Lindsey Dockins
  • Patti Doty
  • Ken & Twilla Eden (Mattea, Joseph, Joshua, Sophia, Jonathan)

  • Tim & Miranda Penn (Samid, Sarah), missionaries to Albania

  • That Christian Life Fellowship would be a church that is devoted to the Word of God, and that we would be doers of it and not just hearers; that we would study the Word and so always be prepared to give everyone an answer–in season and out of season–and be approved workers who do not need to be ashamed, able to accurately understand and explain it.

Community: Pray for the salvation of the lost

  • Readiness to repent
  • Hearts prepared to hear God’s voice
  • Deep dissatisfaction and unrest with life without Him
  • Godly influences

Now there are different gifts, but the same Spirit. There are different ministries, but the same Lord. And there are different activities, but the same God activates each gift in each person. – 1 Corinthians 12:4-6 (HCSB)
