Acts 14

What contributing factors enabled Paul and Barnabas to speak so effectively in Iconium? How did they react when some of the people there stirred up trouble and resistance against them? How did they respond when the people of Lystra credited them with the miracles and tried to worship them? What did Paul do after he was stoned and dragged out of the city, left for dead?

Without the anointing of the Holy Spirit and being grounded in His Word, can I be an effective witness, especially in the face of skeptics and antagonists? How can I be better equipped to proclaim and defend the Gospel of Christ? When faced with the opposition that Paul and Barnabas faced, would I continue to minister or call it quits?

Pray today’s Scripture back to God:
Father God, I thank You for Your Holy Spirit, who anoints, empowers, and guides believers who submit themselves to You in obedience. And I thank You for Your Word, which reveals Your character, Your love and grace, and Your truth. I pray that You would grow in me a strong desire to immerse myself in both Your Word and Your Spirit, such that I may be an effective minister for You to the lost. I know that I can expect opposition from the forces of Satan and the philosophical thinking of this fallen world. When I meet resistance, give me perseverance, as Paul and Barnabas had. May I never take credit for Your work, but give You all the glory for all that You do. May I be willing to continue to minister even to those who would hate me and try to harm me. Give me a heart, mind, and will that say, “I must go through many hardships to enter the kingdom of God.” Make me an encouragement and source of strength for other believers. In Jesus’ Name I pray, Amen!

Pray to BLESS!

One good way to pray for people is to use the acronym BLESS to pray for God’s blessing on every area of their lives:

  • B – BODY (physical health)
  • L – Labor (their job or school)
  • E – Emotions (emotional health as well as guarding against letting emotions rule)
  • S – Social (relationships with family, friends, co-workers, neighbors, church, etc)
  • S – Spiritual (remaining true to God and growing in Him)

Spend some time praying for the following people and ministries:

  • Fred & Shirley Leonard
  • Tris & Chris Miller
  • Mark & Michelle Morgan (Cody, Kyle)
  • Michael & Jenn Morgan

  • Genesis World Mission

  • That we will devote ourselves to prayer, individually, in small groups, and as a church.

Community: Pray for marriages in our community…

  • that Christ-like love would be exhibited
  • for good communication between spouses
  • for unity in finances
  • salvation for non-believing spouses
  • that they would balance work and home life
  • that Godly friends and mentors would come alongside them.

Now there are different gifts, but the same Spirit. There are different ministries, but the same Lord. And there are different activities, but the same God activates each gift in each person. – 1 Corinthians 12:4-6 (HCSB)
