1 Samuel 16

Click here to read today’s passage on Bible Gateway

What did God tell Samuel (1)? What important principle did God reveal to Samuel (7)? What word of rebuke did Samuel have for Israel (19)? How did God begin to prepare David for life as the king of Israel (14-23)?

Do I spend too much time mourning what might have been in the past instead of obeying and following God in the present? Do I make snap judgments of people based on appearance, or do I remember that it is the heart that matters? Do I trust God to lead me through the circumstances of my life to prepare me and train me and to place me where I’m meant to be in his will in His timing?

Pray today’s Scripture back to God:
My Father and my God, Though I have committed many sins and mistakes and have been disappointed by the sins and mistakes of others, help me not to dwell on that and be paralyzed by it. Rather, strengthen me to move forward in faith and obedience. keep me from judging people–for good or for bad–merely on appearances, because you see their hearts and the heart is what matters most to You. Help me to walk by faith and not by sight, trusting that whatever the circumstances, if I love You and am living according to Your purpose, you will use them for good to train and prepare me and to lift me up in Your good time. In Jesus’ Name I pray, Amen!

Pray to BLESS!

One good way to pray for people is to use the acronym BLESS to pray for God’s blessing on every area of their lives:

  • B – BODY (physical health)
  • L – Labor (their job or school)
  • E – Emotions (emotional health as well as guarding against letting emotions rule)
  • S – Social (relationships with family, friends, co-workers, neighbors, church, etc)
  • S – Spiritual (remaining true to God and growing in Him)

Spend some time praying for the following people and ministries:

  • Fred & Shirley Leonard
  • Tris & Chris Miller
  • Mark & Michelle Morgan (Cody, Kyle)
  • Michael & Jenn Morgan

  • Genesis World Mission

  • That we will devote ourselves to prayer, individually, in small groups, and as a church.

Community: Pray for our national leaders

  • God’s anointing on them and a desire in them to follow Him
  • For Jesus to once again be Lord and King over our nation
  • For the president and cabinet to seek after God
  • For judges to rule justly and righteously
  • For senators & representatives to pass godly legislation and block sinful bills
  • That our government would protect its citizens and punish evildoers

For the grace of God has appeared with salvation for all people, instructing us to deny godlessness and worldly lusts and to live in a sensible, righteous, and godly way in the present age, while we wait for the blessed hope and appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior, Jesus Christ. – Titus 2:11-13 (HCSB)
