1 Samuel 17

Click here to read today’s passage on Bible Gateway

What happened to Saul and the men of Israel when they heard Goliath’s challenge? What was David’s response? What was his brother’s reply? How did David answer King Saul’s queries? How did he confront Goliath, and what was the result?

Do I lose my courage and cower in terror before powerful people who demean God, God’s Word, and the gospel, or do I stand firm and confront as David did? Do I trust God to fight the battle and credit Him with the victory?

Pray today’s Scripture back to God:
Father, When the enemy attacks and taunts Your people and Your reputation, strengthen me to respond like David and not like Saul and the rest of the men of Israel. May I boldly proclaim Your power and glory, remember Your past mighty deeds, and bold confidently into battle trusting You to bring the victory and giving You all the glory. In the Name of Jesus, Amen.

Pray to BLESS!
One good way to pray for people is to use the acronym BLESS to pray for God’s blessing on every area of their lives:

  • B – BODY (physical health)
  • L – Labor (their job or school)
  • E – Emotions (emotional health as well as guarding against letting emotions rule)
  • S – Social (relationships with family, friends, co-workers, neighbors, church, etc)
  • S – Spiritual (remaining true to God and growing in Him)

Spend some time praying for the following people and ministries.

  • Moy & Janeth Ortiz
  • Doug & Pam Patchin
  • Jared & Amanda Patchin (Alex, Luc)
  • Keith Rast
  • Travis & Consuela Sauer (Mikayla, Christian, Donte, Cheyenne, Sera, Ella, Thomas)

  • Boise Rescue Mission

  • That we will be people who are devoted to giving to the Lord’s work and to anyone who has a need.

Community: Pray for our state leaders…

  • Governor & his advisers
  • Judges
  • state senators and representatives
  • that they would all be faithful in carrying out their duties justly
  • that they would submit themselves to God

For the grace of God has appeared with salvation for all people, instructing us to deny godlessness and worldly lusts and to live in a sensible, righteous, and godly way in the present age, while we wait for the blessed hope and appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior, Jesus Christ. – Titus 2:11-13 (HCSB)
