1 Samuel 18

Click here to read today’s passage on Bible Gateway

How did Jonathan treat David? How did Saul respond to David’s popularity (8-9,12,15), and what did he do about it (10-11,13)? How did Saul betray David? What challenge did he give David afterwards, and what was the result? How did Saul respond to this (28-29)?

Am I a friend like Jonathan? Or am I more like Saul, jealous of other’s success and envious when God blesses them? Do I keep my word or try to cheat my way out of my promises?

Pray today’s Scripture back to God:
Dear Heavenly Father, Thank You for Jonathan, who by human standards should have been jealous of David and made him an enemy, but instead loved him as he loved himself–a picture of You, who loved me even when I was Your enemy. Keep me from having a heart like Saul, who was afraid and jealous of David and Your blessing on him, who cheated him and even tried to have him killed. Thank You for blessing those whose hearts follow after You. In Jesus’ Name, Amen

Pray to BLESS!
