1 Samuel 19

Click here to read today’s passage on Bible Gateway

What did Jonathan say to Saul about David? What was Saul’s first response (6)? What happened later that showed Saul’s word didn’t mean much (9-20)? What happened to Saul’s agents and Saul himself that revealed God’s sovereign protection over David?

Do I keep my word only when I feel like it or it suits me? Do I often go back on my word and allow anger and jealously to run rampant in my life? Do I thank God for His eternal sovereign protection over me and all who are in Christ?

Pray today’s Scripture back to God:
Father in Heaven, Keep me from the kind of character Saul displayed, swayed for good for the moment by a persuasive speaker, but going back on my word and allowing sin to grow later. Help me to remember that You are sovereign and You know what is best, and I need to submit to You in obedience. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

Pray to BLESS!
One good way to pray for people is to use the acronym BLESS to pray for God’s blessing on every area of their lives:

  • B – BODY (physical health)
  • L – Labor (their job or school)
  • E – Emotions (emotional health as well as guarding against letting emotions rule)
  • S – Social (relationships with family, friends, co-workers, neighbors, church, etc)
  • S – Spiritual (remaining true to God and growing in Him)

Spend some time praying for the following people and ministries:

  • Theresa Daniels
  • Travis & Hali Davidson (Andrew, Maddy)
  • Brandon & Lindsey Dockins
  • Patti Doty
  • Ken & Twilla Eden (Mattea, Joseph, Joshua, Sophia, Jonathan)

  • Tim & Miranda Penn (Samid, Sarah), missionaries to Albania

  • That Christian Life Fellowship would be a church that is devoted to the Word of God, and that we would be doers of it and not just hearers; that we would study the Word and so always be prepared to give everyone an answer–in season and out of season–and be approved workers who do not need to be ashamed, able to accurately understand and explain it.

Community: Pray for Boise & Garden City…

  • That city leaders would submit to God
  • That people can find and keep gainful employment
  • For sound financial management by city officials
  • Salvation for unbelievers
  • For the mayor, city council members, and public works officials
  • Gowan Field Military Base
