Observation
What did the prophet Gad tell David, and what did David do? What does Saul’s speech in verses 7-8 reveal about his character? What did Doeg tell Saul, and what horrible act did Saul command as a result? How did God preserve the priesthood, and what does David’s response reveal about his character?
Application
Am I more like Saul or David?
Prayer
Pray today’s Scripture back to God:
My Father and my God, Keep me from a heart like Saul–narcissistic, proud, with a victim mentality and prone to rage and violence. Instead, give me a heart like David–compassionate, obedient to you, taking responsibility for the consequences of his actions, and a defender of the oppressed. In Jesus’ Name I pray, Amen!
Pray to BLESS!
One good way to pray for people is to use the acronym BLESS to pray for God’s blessing on every area of their lives:
- B – BODY (physical health)
- L – Labor (their job or school)
- E – Emotions (emotional health as well as guarding against letting emotions rule)
- S – Social (relationships with family, friends, co-workers, neighbors, church, etc)
- S – Spiritual (remaining true to God and growing in Him)
Spend some time praying for the following people and ministries:
- Fred & Shirley Leonard
- Tris & Chris Miller
- Mark & Michelle Morgan (Cody, Kyle)
- Michael & Jenn Morgan
