1 Samuel 12

Click here to read today’s passage on Bible Gateway

How did Israel respond to Samuel’s challenge to bring charges against him for any wrongs he’d committed? Why was he still bothered by the fact that they wanted a king? What was the promise and warning he relayed (14-15, 20-22, 25)? What personal promise did he make (23)?

Do I live in such a way that no one can bring a charge of theft, mistreatment, or wrongdoing against me? Do I commit evil in the Lord’s sight by setting up anything other than Him (including myself) as the ruler of my life? Do I fear God, worship, obey, and follow Him faithfully with all my heart? Do I pray for my brothers and sisters in Christ and help teach the good and right way to those younger in the faith?

Pray today’s Scripture back to God:
Dear Heavenly Father, May I be like Samuel such that no one can bring a charge of wrongdoing against me. May I not commit evil in Your sight by setting up anything or anyone but You as my king. May I always fear You, worship and obey You, and not rebel against Your command, following You, LORD my God. I thank You for Your grace, for even though I have committed all this evil, You saved me by the blood of Christ. So keep me from ever turning away from following You. Instead, teach me to worship You with all my heart. Help me to see that anything else is worthless and can’t profit or deliver me. But you will never abandon me, because of Your great name and because You have determined to make me Your child. May I not sin against You by ceasing to pray for Your people. Help me to teach those weaker in the faith the good and right way. Above all, may I fear You, LORD, and worship You faithfully with all my heart, considering the great things You have done for me. In Jesus’ Name, Amen

  • L – Labor (their job or school)
  • E – Emotions (emotional health as well as guarding against letting emotions rule)
  • S – Social (relationships with family, friends, co-workers, neighbors, church, etc)

Dear friend, do not imitate what is evil, but what is good. The one who does good is of God; the one who does evil has not seen God. – 3 John 11 (HCSB)
