What does this passage teach about Christian leadership? What does Paul say is the current state and final state of false teachers?

What can I do this week to encourage others and build them up? How can I guard against temptation and philosophies that appear as virtuous but are actually evil?

Pray today’s Scripture back to God:
Father, I ask that I would be able to cultivate the meekness and gentleness of Christ in my life, but also that I would be bold, direct, and unwavering when the situation requires. Help me to remember that spiritual warfare is not physical warfare, and the weapons are not the same. The weapons You provide for spiritual warfare have divine power to demolish strongholds. Help me to use them to demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of You, and to take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ. Help me to look past the surface, with spiritual eyes enlightened by the Holy Spirit. Help me to use the authority You give me in Christ for building up rather than tearing down. Let me not trust in my own strength or boast in accomplishments, but if I boast may I boast only in You, for it is only the one You commend who is approved. May I never be led astray from pure and sincere devotion to Christ. Help me to be on my guard against false teachers who appear as messengers of the truth, but are liars and destroyers. I ask that the Holy Spirit would give me discernment to recognize them and speak out against them, that no one in my sphere of influence would be deceived. In Jesus’ name, Amen!

Pray to BLESS!

One good way to pray for people is to use the acronym BLESS to pray for God’s blessing on every area of their lives:

  • B – BODY (physical health)
  • L – Labor (their job or school)
  • E – Emotions (emotional health as well as guarding against letting emotions rule)
  • S – Social (relationships with family, friends, co-workers, neighbors, church, etc)
  • S – Spiritual (remaining true to God and growing in Him)

Spend some time praying for the following people and ministries:

  • Robin & Florence Henderson
  • David & MaryBeth Hollander (Cole, Marcus, Jack)
  • Bob & Peggy Hoover
  • Pat & Hannah Kelley
  • Darrell & Fralina Leatham

  • Chrysalis Women’s Transitional Housing

  • Pray that we would be a church that is dedicated to the breaking of bread, both in the sense of being devoted to observing the Lord’s Supper, and in meeting together for meals to fellowship, to deepen bonds, to heal offenses, and to end disputes.

Community: Pray for the elderly…

  • That they will be treated respectfully
  • That they will not dwell on mistakes and regret
  • That God will provide for their health and finances
  • That God will protect them from those who would try to harm them
  • Salvation for unbelievers
  • Any broken family relationships restored before they pass on

Be serious! Be alert! Your adversary the Devil is prowling around like a roaring lion, looking for anyone he can devour. Resist him and be firm in the faith, knowing that the same sufferings are being experienced by your fellow believers throughout the world. – 1 Peter 5:8-9 (HCSB)
