2 Corinthians 11:16-12:10

Why does Paul share so much detail about his suffering for the gospel? How has the “thorn in his flesh” impacted his life?

There are many “Christian” teachers who state that if we are walking with Christ in faith, we should never be sick, hurt, or in need. How does that teaching jibe with this passage?

Pray today’s Scripture back to God:
Lord God, When I think about what Paul went through for the Gospel of Christ, I am in awe of the grace You gave him to continue with Your work. I confess that far too often I am ready to give up at the sight of the smallest obstacle. Strengthen me to follow Paul’s example, that I might persevere with a steadfast faith, rejoicing in the privilege of sharing the sufferings of Christ. Help me to boast only of my weakness and Your strength. Help me to continue walking in faith, even if You choose to allow a thorn in the flesh to remain. I affirm that You are good and You word is true, and I believe that Your grace is sufficient for me, for Your power is made perfect in weakness. Therefore, I boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christs’s power may rest in me. Help me, for Christ’s sake, to delight in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties, for when I am weak, then I am strong. In Jesus’ Name I pray, Amen!

Pray to BLESS!

One good way to pray for people is to use the acronym BLESS to pray for God’s blessing on every area of their lives:

  • B – BODY (physical health)
  • L – Labor (their job or school)
  • E – Emotions (emotional health as well as guarding against letting emotions rule)
  • S – Social (relationships with family, friends, co-workers, neighbors, church, etc)
  • S – Spiritual (remaining true to God and growing in Him)

Spend some time praying for the following people and ministries:

  • Fred & Shirley Leonard
  • Tris & Chris Miller
  • Mark & Michelle Morgan (Cody, Kyle)
  • Michael & Jenn Morgan

  • Genesis World Mission

  • That we will devote ourselves to prayer, individually, in small groups, and as a church.

Community: Pray for your neighbors…

  • That God would provide opportunities for you to minister to them
  • That unbelievers would receive Christ as Savior and Lord
  • For their marriages / family relationships
  • For their finances / employment
  • Any specific needs of which you’re aware

Be serious! Be alert! Your adversary the Devil is prowling around like a roaring lion, looking for anyone he can devour. Resist him and be firm in the faith, knowing that the same sufferings are being experienced by your fellow believers throughout the world. – 1 Peter 5:8-9 (HCSB)
