How can we distinguish lies (false doctrine) from the truth?

Am I on my guard against false doctrine–do I study God’s Word and ask the Holy Spirit to teach me?

Dear Father, It is the last hour, and just as you said that the antichrist is coming, so now many antichrists have appeared. We know from this that it is the last hour. They went out from us, but they did not really belong to us, because if they had belonged to us, they would have remained with us. But they went out from us to demonstrate that all of them do not belong to us. Nevertheless, thank You that I have an anointing from Your Holy Spirit, who gives me knowledge. Thank You for revealing Your truth through Your Word and Your Spirit so that I can know it, and that no lie is of the truth. Who is the liar but the person who denies that Jesus is the Christ? Your Word teaches that this one is the antichrist: the person who denies the Father and the Son. Everyone who denies the Son does not have the Father, either. The person who confesses the Son has the Father, also. As for me, I ask that what I have heard from the beginning will remain in me so that I also will remain in the Son and in You, Father. Thank You for the promise that You Yourself made to us: eternal life. So please keep me from being deceived. Thank You that the anointing that I received from You resides in me and that Your Spirit teaches me about all things; He is true and is not a lie. Just as He has taught me, I reside in Him. And now, help me to remain in Him, so that when Christ appears I may have confidence and not shrink away from Him in shame when He comes back. I know that You are righteous, and I also know that everyone who practices righteousness has been fathered by You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Pray to BLESS!
One good way to pray for people is to use the acronym BLESS to pray for God’s blessing on every area of their lives:

  • B – BODY (physical health)
  • L – Labor (their job or school)
  • E – Emotions (emotional health as well as guarding against letting emotions rule)
  • S – Social (relationships with family, friends, co-workers, neighbors, church, etc)
  • S – Spiritual (remaining true to God and growing in Him)

Spend some time praying for the following people and ministries:

  • Gil & Lois Estes
  • Gary Friend
  • Scott & Kristi Guinn (Josiah)
  • Mike & Jamie Haberkorn (Hannah, Sean)
  • Deborah Halkola

  • J & G Simon, missionaries to Austria

  • Ask that we would be a church that is devoted to true fellowship: Pray that we would be encouraged from being united with Christ, comforted by His love, bonded with His Spirit, tender and compassionate with one another. Pray that we would be like-minded, having the same love, being one in spirit and purpose. Ask that we would do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit, but in humility consider one another better than ourselves, looking not only to our own interests, but also to the interests of each other. Pray that we would all have the same attitude as that of Christ Jesus.

God–His way is perfect; the word of the LORD is pure. He is a shield to all who take refuge in Him. For who is God besides the LORD? And who is a rock? Only our God. – 2 Samuel 22:31-32 (HCSB)
