If someone is truly a child of God, how will that be revealed in his/her life? What is the difference between committing a sin and “practicing” sin?

Am I truly grateful for the love the Father has lavished on me? Do I make a conscious, ongoing effort to purify myself and keep from practicing sin?

Pray today’s Scripture back to God:

Dear Father in Heaven, I am in awe of the love You have given to me: that I should be called Your child — and indeed I am! For this reason the world does not know me: because it did not know Christ. I thank You that all who receive Him are Your children now, and what we will be has not yet been revealed. I believe Your promise that whenever it is revealed we will be like Him, because we will see Him just as He is. Since I have this hope focused on Him, may I purify myself by submitting to Your Holy Spirit, just as Jesus is pure. Keep me from habitual sin, for You said that everyone who practices sin also practices lawlessness; indeed, sin is lawlessness. Thank You that Jesus was revealed to take away sins, and in Him there is no sin. Everyone who resides in Him does not sin; everyone who sins has neither seen Him nor known Him. Father, let no one deceive me, but always remind me: The one who practices righteousness is righteous, just as Jesus is righteous; the one who practices sin is of the devil, because the devil has been sinning from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was revealed: to destroy the works of the devil. You are my Father, so I will not practice sin, because Your seed resides in me. Thus I am not able to live in a lifestyle of sin, because I have been Fathered by You. By this the children of God and the children of the devil are revealed: Everyone who does not practice righteousness — the one who does not love his fellow Christian — is not of God. Therefore, guard my heart and mind, I ask, in the Name of Jesus, Amen.

Pray to BLESS!
One good way to pray for people is to use the acronym BLESS to pray for God’s blessing on every area of their lives:

  • B – BODY (physical health)
  • L – Labor (their job or school)
  • E – Emotions (emotional health as well as guarding against letting emotions rule)
  • S – Social (relationships with family, friends, co-workers, neighbors, church, etc)
  • S – Spiritual (remaining true to God and growing in Him)

Spend some time praying for the following people and ministries:

  • David & MaryBeth Hollander (Cole, Marcus, Jack)
  • Bob & Peggy Hoover
  • Pat & Hannah Kelley
  • Darrell & Fralina Leatham

  • Chrysalis Women’s Transitional Housing

  • Pray that we would be a church that is dedicated to the breaking of bread, both in the sense of being devoted to observing the Lord’s Supper, and in meeting together for meals to fellowship, to deepen bonds, to heal offenses, and to end disputes.

Community: Pray for Ontario…

  • That city leaders would submit to God
  • That people can find and keep gainful employment
  • For sound financial management by city officials
  • Salvation for unbelievers
  • For the mayor, city council members, and public works officials

God–His way is perfect; the word of the LORD is pure. He is a shield to all who take refuge in Him. For who is God besides the LORD? And who is a rock? Only our God. – 2 Samuel 22:31-32 (HCSB)
