Luke 1:39-80

What was the response of Elizabeth and her unborn baby (John the Baptist) at the arrival of Mary, who was pregnant with Jesus? Why did the Holy Spirit (speaking through Elizabeth) say that Mary was blessed? What did the Holy Spirit, speaking through Zechariah, say was the reason for Christ’s arrival (verses 76-79)?

Do I react with great joy and excitement when I consider the arrival of Christ? Would Elizabeth have called me blessed for my faith? Do I thank God for his merciful compassion, for sending Christ to shine His light on this dark world?

Dear Loving Eternal Father, Give me a heart that rejoices and exults in the coming of Christ Jesus! Give me a faith that believes You at Your word and responds in obedience and absolute confidence. Thank You for Your great mercy and love, revealed in Your divine Son, who gave us salvation through the forgiveness of sins by faith in His shed blood. Thank You that He came to earth to shine on us who lived in darkness and the shadow of death, and to guide our feet in the way of peace! Be glorified in me this day and all the days of my life! I ask this for Jesus’ sake and in His name, Amen.

Pray to BLESS!
One good way to pray for people is to use the acronym BLESS to pray for God’s blessing on every area of their lives:

  • B – BODY (physical health)
  • L – Labor (their job or school)
  • E – Emotions (emotional health as well as guarding against letting emotions rule)
  • S – Social (relationships with family, friends, co-workers, neighbors, church, etc)
  • S – Spiritual (remaining true to God and growing in Him)

Spend some time praying for the following people and ministries:

  • Fred & Shirley Leonard
  • Tris & Chris Miller
  • Mark & Michelle Morgan (Cody, Kyle)
  • Michael & Jenn Morgan

  • Christian Pro-Life Ministries in Idaho (Idaho Chooses Life, Stanton Health Care, etc)

  • That we will devote ourselves to prayer, individually, in small groups, and as a church.

Community: Pray for teens and young adults (middle school through college age) in our community

  • For Godly influences and teachers
  • For safety and protection from accidents, abuse, and predators
  • Salvation for unbelievers
  • For a heart to learn and to know God
  • That they will not be prodigals, but remain true to God all the days of their lives
  • That they would turn to God to fill every need, not to addictive substances and behaviors
  • Respect for parents and other authority

“I, Jesus, have sent My angel to attest these things to you for the churches. I am the Root and the Offspring of David, the Bright Morning Star.” – Revelation 22:16 (HCSB)
