Luke 5

What did Jesus tell Peter, James and John their mission would be (10)? Why did Jesus heal the leper and the paralytic? Why did He say He had come (31-32)?

Am I following Christ and “catching people”? Do I bring my needs to Him in faith, believing that if He is willing, He can meet them? Do I remember that I was spiritually sick and needed His healing, and do I care for and pray for others to receive that eternal healing as well?

Pray today’s Scripture back to God:
Dear God my Father, Impress upon me the need to “catch people.” Remind me that it is not my job to save them–only You can do that–but that it is my job to be sensitive to your Spirit’s leading and to share the Good News with others and to disciple them after they come to Christ. Lord, You have provided for me so many times and in so many ways. Remind me to bring ALL my needs and requests to You, believing that if You are willing, You will take care of them. Thank You for sending Jesus to save sick people like me, and for calling me to repentance and saving me from the power of sin and death for all eternity! Help me to remember that the people around me need that eternal healing, as well. I thank You in Jesus’ Name. Amen.

Pray to BLESS!
One good way to pray for people is to use the acronym BLESS to pray for God’s blessing on every area of their lives:

  • B – BODY (physical health)
  • L – Labor (their job or school)
  • E – Emotions (emotional health as well as guarding against letting emotions rule)
  • S – Social (relationships with family, friends, co-workers, neighbors, church, etc)
  • S – Spiritual (remaining true to God and growing in Him)

Spend some time praying for the following people and ministries:

  • David & MaryBeth Hollander (Cole, Marcus, Jack)
  • Bob & Peggy Hoover
  • Pat & Hannah Kelley
  • Darrell & Fralina Leatham

  • Chrysalis Women’s Transitional Housing

  • Pray that we would be a church that is dedicated to the breaking of bread, both in the sense of being devoted to observing the Lord’s Supper, and in meeting together for meals to fellowship, to deepen bonds, to heal offenses, and to end disputes.

Community: Pray for the relationship between generations–parents, children, grandparents

  • That the true Christian faith of older generation would be clearly communicated and passed down to children
  • That saved children in unsaved families would clearly exhibit and communicate the faith to their parents and grandparents
  • A harvest of souls of all ages
  • Good, nurturing relationships

But based on His promise, we wait for the new heavens and a new earth, where righteousness will dwell. Therefore, dear friends, while you wait for these things, make every effort to be found at peace with Him without spot or blemish. – 2 Peter 3:13-14 (HCSB)
