Luke 7:11-50

What was the result of Jesus bringing the dead son back to life (16)? What did Jesus say when John’s disciples asked Him if He was the Messiah (22)? How did Jesus’ reaction to the sinful woman differ from the Pharisee’s reaction?

Do I have a healthy fear of the power of God (see Proverbs 9:10)? Do I believe in the signs that Jesus performed and in Him as the God-man and Savior of the world? How do I respond to sinners–like Jesus or like the Pharisee?

Pray today’s Scripture back to God:
Dear Jesus, Thank You for Your awesome power over all things, including death! I confess that sometimes I take You for granted and treat my salvation flippantly. Remind me that You are awesomely powerful, and that I should be careful to maintain a healthy fear of that power and of the Triune God! I declare that I believe in the mighty miracles You performed, and I recognize them as signs that You are God and the Messiah and Savior. I trust in You alone and Your finished work on the cross as the sole basis of my salvation, and in Your resurrection power as the sole hope for my own resurrection and eternal life. Never let me forget that, while You have made me perfect for eternity, I am a sinner who would be forever lost without You. And so let me treat other sinners as You did: fallen people, but people You value highly and love dearly; people for whom You came to earth and died to save. I praise You and I thank You, Jesus, for saving me! Amen!

Pray to BLESS!
One good way to pray for people is to use the acronym BLESS to pray for God’s blessing on every area of their lives:

  • B – BODY (physical health)
  • L – Labor (their job or school)
  • E – Emotions (emotional health as well as guarding against letting emotions rule)
  • S – Social (relationships with family, friends, co-workers, neighbors, church, etc)
  • S – Spiritual (remaining true to God and growing in Him)

Spend some time praying for the following people and ministries.

Community: Pray for the elderly…

But based on His promise, we wait for the new heavens and a new earth, where righteousness will dwell. Therefore, dear friends, while you wait for these things, make every effort to be found at peace with Him without spot or blemish. – 2 Peter 3:13-14 (HCSB)
