John 1:1-14

Click here to read today’s passage on Bible Gateway

What does this passage reveal about the pre-incarnate (before His human birth) nature of Christ? What is the significance of the term “light” repeatedly being used to describe Him? What two seemingly incompatible (in the eyes of the world) characteristics came together in perfect compatibility and fullness in Him (14)?

Do I believe that Jesus Christ is fully God, the Creator of all things, eternally pre-existing before His arrival in Bethlehem? Do I trust in Him as the only source of life and true light? Do I look to Him as the source, standard, and authority of both grace and truth?

Pray today’s Scripture back to God:
Dear Father in Heaven, I thank You that the child born to Mary in Bethlehem was not just a prophet, or teacher, or good man, but the infinite, eternal, all-powerful Second Person of the Triune Godhead, the Creator of all things, and the only source of life and light! I thank You that the darkness did not overcome Him, but He overcame the darkness of this fallen world, the forces of Satan, sin, and death! I thank You that to all who receive Him and believe Him, You give the right to be Your children, born of Your will. Thank You, Father, that the Living Word of God became flesh and lived among us, revealing Your glory, grace and truth! In the name of Christ Jesus I pray, Amen.

Pray to BLESS!
One good way to pray for people is to use the acronym BLESS to pray for God’s blessing on every area of their lives:

  • B – BODY (physical health)
  • L – Labor (their job or school)
  • E – Emotions (emotional health as well as guarding against letting emotions rule)
  • S – Social (relationships with family, friends, co-workers, neighbors, church, etc)
  • S – Spiritual (remaining true to God and growing in Him)

Spend some time praying for the following people and ministries.

  • Moy & Janeth Ortiz
  • Doug & Pam Patchin
  • Jared & Amanda Patchin (Alex, Luc)
  • Keith Rast
  • Travis & Consuela Sauer (Mikayla, Christian, Donte, Cheyenne, Sera, Ella, Thomas)

  • Boise Rescue Mission

  • That we will be people who are devoted to giving to the Lord’s work and to anyone who has a need.

Community: Pray for Star and Eagle

  • That city leaders would submit to God
  • That people can find and keep gainful employment
  • For sound financial management by city officials
  • Salvation for unbelievers
  • For the mayor, city council members, and public works officials

But I have trusted in Your faithful love; my heart will rejoice in Your deliverance. – Psalm 13:5 (HCSB)
