Psalm 69

Click here to read today’s passage on Bible Gateway

In what situation did David find himself (1-5)? How does his heart for God shine through even here (6)? What does he ask of God (13-18)? What does he resolve to do (30)?

How do I react when I am facing difficulties and confronted with my own sin? Do I desire to keep God’s reputation from being defamed on my account? Do I seek God and ask for His provision and protection? Do I resolve to praise Him no matter what?

Dear Father God, I confess that I am sinful and that many times my own decisions bring negative consequences. I also know that sometimes, even if I do what is right, trials will come. In either case, help me to remain true to you, Lord. May I never defame Your reputation or cause those who trust in You to be disgraced and humiliated because of me. My prayer to You is for a time of favor. In Your abundant, faithful love, God, answer me with Your sure salvation. Rescue me from the miry mud; don’t let me sink. Let me be rescued from those who hate me, and from the deep waters. Answer me, LORD, for Your faithful love is good; in keeping with Your great compassion, turn to me. Draw near to me and redeem me. Let Your salvation protect me, God. I will praise Your name with song and exalt You with thanksgiving. For You, LORD, listen to the needy and You do not despise Your own who are prisoners. Let heaven and earth praise You, the seas and everything that moves in them! I give you thanks and praise in Jesus’ name, Amen.

Pray to BLESS!
One good way to pray for people is to use the acronym BLESS to pray for God’s blessing on every area of their lives:

  • B – BODY (physical health)
  • L – Labor (their job or school)
  • E – Emotions (emotional health as well as guarding against letting emotions rule)
  • S – Social (relationships with family, friends, co-workers, neighbors, church, etc)
