Observation

What does this passage teach us about martyred saints and those who oppose God’s will?

Application

Do I trust God to put all things right and to take care of His saints?

Prayer

Pray today’s Scripture back to God:
Lord God, As I read this passage I see how, in spite of any appearances to the contrary, You are and always will be in control of all things. Though often the good are persecuted and the wicked thrive, I thank You that You always provide for Your saints, and You will one day avenge them. I pray that men and women everywhere would turn to You before it’s too late, but I thank You that for those people, great and small, who harden their hearts and ultimately defy You, the day of Your wrath will come, and none will be able to withstand it. I pray this in the name of Jesus, Amen.

Pray to BLESS!
One good way to pray for people is to use the acronym BLESS to pray for God’s blessing on every area of their lives:

  • B – BODY (physical health)
  • L – Labor (their job or school)
  • E – Emotions (emotional health as well as guarding against letting emotions rule)
  • S – Social (relationships with family, friends, co-workers, neighbors, church, etc)
  • S – Spiritual (remaining true to God and growing in Him)

Spend some time praying for the following people and ministries:

  • Deborah Halkola
  • David & MaryBeth Hollander (Cole, Marcus, Jack, Emma, Lucy)
  • Bob Hoover
  • Pat & Hannah Kelley
  • Andy Lanning

Ministry:

  • Chrysalis Women’s Transitional Housing

CLF:

  • Pray that we would be a church that is dedicated to the breaking of bread, both in the sense of being devoted to observing the Lord’s Supper, and in meeting together for meals to fellowship, to deepen bonds, to heal offenses, and to end disputes.

Community: Pray for Mountain Home…

  • That city leaders would submit to God
  • That people can find and keep gainful employment
  • For sound financial management by city officials
  • Salvation for unbelievers
  • For the mayor, city council members, and public works officials
  • For the air base: safety for military and their families (especially those who are deployed), sound military strategies by commanders, impact for Christ in areas where deployed

Catechism

PART 1: GOD, CREATION AND FALL, LAW

Question #19: Is there any way to escape punishment and be brought back into God’s favor?

Children’s Answer: Yes, God reconciles us to Himself by a Redeemer.

Adult’s Answer: Yes, to satisfy His justice, God Himself, out of mere mercy, reconciles us to Himself and delivers us from sin and from the punishment for sin, by a Redeemer.

Memory Verse

Isaiah 53:10–11 (HCSB)

Yet the LORD was pleased to crush Him severely. When You make Him a restitution offering, He will see His seed, He will prolong His days, and by His hand, the LORD’s pleasure will be accomplished. He will see it out of His anguish, and He will be satisfied with His knowledge. My righteous Servant will justify many, and He will carry their iniquities.
