Observation

What are the benefits of obeying God’s word? How can we we keep pure, and why should we memorize Scripture? What is the psalmist’s prayer (18), and to what end (27-29)?

Application

Am I committed to living my life in accordance with the word of God? Do I spend time in God’s Word in order to renew my mind and follow Him? In what ways do I need to turn away from fleshly desires and habits and turn to God?

Prayer

Pray today’s Scripture back to God:
Dear Father, I give You praise for Your holy and perfect word, The Bible. Open my eyes so that I may see wonderful things in Your Word. May I read it, study it, learn it, memorize it, meditate on it, and follow it, that I might live in true godliness and be prepared when faced with temptation. I delight in Your word, which I love. Amen.

Pray to BLESS!
One good way to pray for people is to use the acronym BLESS to pray for God’s blessing on every area of their lives:

  • B – BODY (physical health)
  • L – Labor (their job or school)
  • E – Emotions (emotional health as well as guarding against letting emotions rule)
  • S – Social (relationships with family, friends, co-workers, neighbors, church, etc)
  • S – Spiritual (remaining true to God and growing in Him)

Spend some time praying for the following people and ministries:

  • Gary Friend
  • Roger & Andrea Gabel; Tom
  • Steve & Gloria Gangwer
  • Scott & Kristi Guinn (Josiah)
  • Mike & Jamie Haberkorn (Hannah, Sean)

Ministry:

  • J & G Simon, missionaries to Greece

CLF:

  • Ask that we would be a church that is devoted to true fellowship: Pray that we would be encouraged from being united with Christ, comforted by His love, bonded with His Spirit, tender and compassionate with one another. Pray that we would be like-minded, having the same love, being one in spirit and purpose. Ask that we would do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit, but in humility consider one another better than ourselves, looking not only to our own interests, but also to the interests of each other. Pray that we would all have the same attitude as that of Christ Jesus.

Community: Pray for the relationship between generations–parents, children, grandparents

  • That the true Christian faith of older generation would be clearly communicated and passed down to children
  • That saved children in unsaved families would clearly exhibit and communicate the faith to their parents and grandparents
  • A harvest of souls of all ages
  • Good, nurturing relationships

Catechism

PART 2: CHRIST, REDEMPTION AND GRACE

Question #31: What do we believe by true faith?

Children’s Answer: We believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth; and in Jesus Christ His only Son our Lord, who was crucified, died, and was buried. He descended into hell. The third day He rose again from the dead. We believe in the Holy Spirit, the church, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting.

Adult’s Answer: Everything taught to us in the gospel. The Apostles’ Creed expresses what we believe in these words: We believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth; and in Jesus Christ His only Son our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried. He descended into hell. The third day He rose again from the dead. He ascended into heaven, and is seated at the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from there He will come to judge the living and the dead. We believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting.
