Ecclesiastes 6

Click here to read today’s passage on Bible Gateway

SB: Man deprives himself of the good he might have had of his worldly possessions by not consecrating them to God. If one does not have the will to serve God with what he has, God may deny him the power to even serve himself with it.

LASB: How shortsighted it is to work hard to extend this life and not take the time to prepare for eternity. God knows and directs everything that happens, and he is in complete control over our lives, even though at times it may not seem that way. How foolish it is for us to contend with our Creator, who knows us completely and can see the future. In all our plans we should look up to God, not just ahead to the future.

Pray today’s Scripture back to God:
Dear Father, Help me always to remember that You are the Giver of all good things, and I should focus on You, not Your gifts. May the treasures of eternity always take precedence in my life over the treasures of earth. Give me grace to trust in You and believe that You are in control and always good, even when trials and tragedies come my way. May I ever trust You with my future, both in this life and in eternity. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Pray to BLESS!
One good way to pray for people is to use the acronym BLESS to pray for God’s blessing on every area of their lives:

  • B – BODY (physical health)
  • L – Labor (their job or school)
  • E – Emotions (emotional health as well as guarding against letting emotions rule)
  • S – Social (relationships with family, friends, co-workers, neighbors, church, etc)
  • S – Spiritual (remaining true to God and growing in Him)

Spend some time praying for the following people and ministries.

  • Chris & DeAnn Smith (Sasha, Noah, Gavin, Natalie)
  • Janet Sonnenberg
  • Dave & Debbie Spears
  • Justin & Bonnie Wilkerson (Janae, Jordan)
  • Sree & Irena Yalamanchili
  • Jason & Danielle Youngblood (Kayla, Kendra)

  • Chapel Mission India

  • That we would be devoted to thanksgiving and praise to our Lord–for what He has done, for what He is doing, for what He will do, and for who He is–in good times and bad.

Community: Pray for Unity in the Body of Christ…

  • that we would be united in our love for Jesus and each other
  • that we would encourage and support each other
  • that we would focus on Biblical principles in every arena of our lives
  • that we would have a spirit of cooperation in outreach

Operation Christmas Child:

  • Pray for God to direct each shoe box gift into the hands of just the right child so that each one will experience His unconditional love and provision.

Question #47: Does the Lord’s Supper add anything to Christ’s atoning work?

Children’s Answer: No, Christ died once for all.

Adult’s Answer: No, Christ died once for all. The Lord’s Supper is a covenant meal celebrating Christ’s atoning work; as it is also a means of strengthening our faith as we look to him, and a foretaste of the future feast. But those who take part with unrepentant hearts eat and drink judgment on themselves.

Memory Verse

1 Peter 3:18 (HCSB)

For Christ also suffered for sins once for all, the righteous for the unrighteous, that He might bring you to God, after being put to death in the fleshly realm but made alive in the spiritual realm.
