Genesis 34

Click here to read today’s passage on Bible Gateway

What happened to Jacob’s daughter? How did his sons exact revenge?

Do I cause other people grief because of my bad decisions and example? Do I leave vengeance up to God, or take it upon myself?

Pray today’s Scripture back to God:
Dear Lord, like Lot before him, Jacob settled in an area with wicked people who did wicked things. As a result, his daughter was violated and his sons committed mass murder (using the rite of circumcision You had given as a sign of Your covenant in their plot!) in taking their revenge. Help me to make wiser decisions and to set a better example than Jacob did here. In Jesus’ name, Amen!

Pray to BLESS!

One good way to pray for people is to use the acronym BLESS to pray for God’s blessing on every area of their lives:

  • B – BODY (physical health)
  • L – Labor (their job or school)
  • E – Emotions (emotional health as well as guarding against letting emotions rule)
  • S – Social (relationships with family, friends, co-workers, neighbors, church, etc)
  • S – Spiritual (remaining true to God and growing in Him)

Spend some time praying for the following people and ministries.

  • Dustin and Amy Barton
  • Debbie Brueggemann
  • Michelle Caldwell
  • Kathi Carr
  • Loran “Bud” Clark

  • Compassion International

  • That we will be devoted to evangelism and growth; that the Lord will add to our numbers those who are being saved.

Community: Pray for area pastors and their families:

  • Encouragement
  • Faithfulness in the Lord’s work
  • Finances
  • Marriage/family relationships
  • Work/life balance
  • Deep friendships and support from other Christian leaders

Operation Christmas Child:

  • Pray that God will use Operation Christmas Child to bring joy to boys and girls who are facing poverty, sickness, or war.
