Matthew 6

What does Jesus teach about prayer, giving, and fasting? About material wealth?

Is my worship like that described as honoring to God in this passage, or more like that of the Pharisees? Am I overly concerned with money and materialism?

Pray today’s Scripture back to God:
Dear Father in Heaven, Help me to practice my religion in a manner that honors You, and not from a motive of me being honored by people. May my giving be from a sincere and cheerful heart, and be kept between just You and me. When I fast or pray, may it be from a desire to commune with You, and not to impress others. I pray that Your Name may be honored, that Your kingdom would come and that Your will would be done on earth as it is in heaven. I ask that You would provide my daily needs, and help me to forgive others as You have forgiven me. I ask that You would keep me from temptation and deliver me from the evil one. Remind me to focus on collecting treasure in heaven and not on earth, so that my heart will be in the right place. Help me not to worry about my life, but to trust You to take care of me. I ask all of this in the name of the One who gave Himself for me, Jesus Christ. Amen!

Pray to BLESS!
One good way to pray for people is to use the acronym BLESS to pray for God’s blessing on every area of their lives:

  • B – BODY (physical health)
  • L – Labor (their job or school)
  • E – Emotions (emotional health as well as guarding against letting emotions rule)
  • S – Social (relationships with family, friends, co-workers, neighbors, church, etc)
  • S – Spiritual (remaining true to God and growing in Him)

Spend some time praying for the following people and ministries.

  • Michael & Jenn Morgan (Eleanor)
  • Moy & Janeth Ortiz (Anabelle)
  • Doug & Pam Patchin
  • Jared & Amanda Patchin (Alex, Luc)
  • Travis & Consuela Sauer (Mikayla, Christian, Donte, Cheyenne, Sera, Ella, Thomas)
