Observation

What does taking up my cross mean? What is “giving a cup of cold water”?

Application

Do I “take up my cross” and follow Jesus? How can I “give a cup of cold water” in His name today?

Prayer

Pray today’s Scripture back to God:
Dear Father God, Help me to give freely, even as I have freely received from You. Help me to be as wise as a serpent and as innocent as a dove–remembering that I am a sheep surrounded by wolves, and trusting the Good Shepherd to protect me. Remind me that a disciple is not greater than his master, and men hated and abused Jesus, so I should not be surprised if I am hated and abused as His follower. I thank You that I am so valuable to You that even the hairs of my head are numbered, so I need fear no one but You. Help me always to acknowledge Jesus before people, and to love Him above all else. May I daily take up my cross and follow Him. Reveal to me each day how I can do acts of kindness in His name. I ask this in His Name, Amen!

Pray to BLESS!
One good way to pray for people is to use the acronym BLESS to pray for God’s blessing on every area of their lives:

  • B – BODY (physical health)
  • L – Labor (their job or school)
  • E – Emotions (emotional health as well as guarding against letting emotions rule)
  • S – Social (relationships with family, friends, co-workers, neighbors, church, etc)
  • S – Spiritual (remaining true to God and growing in Him)

Spend some time praying for the following people and ministries:

  • Roger & Andrea Gabel; Tom
  • Steve & Gloria Gangwer
  • George Gifford
  • Scott & Kristi Guinn (Josiah)
  • Mike & Jamie Haberkorn (Hannah, Sean)

Ministry:

  • J & G Simon, missionaries to Greece

CLF:

  • Ask that we would be a church that is devoted to true fellowship: Pray that we would be encouraged from being united with Christ, comforted by His love, bonded with His Spirit, tender and compassionate with one another. Pray that we would be like-minded, having the same love, being one in spirit and purpose. Ask that we would do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit, but in humility consider one another better than ourselves, looking not only to our own interests, but also to the interests of each other. Pray that we would all have the same attitude as that of Christ Jesus.

Community: Pray for Mountain Home…

  • That city leaders would submit to God
  • That people can find and keep gainful employment
  • For sound financial management by city officials
  • Salvation for unbelievers
  • For the mayor, city council members, and public works officials
  • For the air base: safety for military and their families (especially those who are deployed), sound military strategies by commanders, impact for Christ in areas where deployed

Operation Christmas Child:

  • Pray that the boxes will open doors for children to hear the Good News in parts of the world that are typically closed to proclaiming the Gospel.
