Leviticus 8

While the entire tribe of Levites were especially set aside for service to God, only those from Aaron’s line could serve as priests. The ceremonial rituals described here are symbolic of the purity and holiness of God–the priests, who were also sinful humans, had to take care of their own sins before God before they could intercede for the people. The writer of Hebrews tells us that this is why Jesus is a far superior priest; He faced every form of temptation but remained sinless. Therefore, His offering of Himself was complete and acceptable to God, and therefore His work is finished.

Just like the priests, we are not made right before God due to any holiness on our own part–it comes from God and God alone through Jesus Christ. It doesn’t matter if you are the senior pastor of a mega church or a person who no one seems to have heard of–our holiness and right standing before God come from Him, not us.

Do I live as one set apart for God’s service, since in Christ I am a citizen in His kingdom of priests? Am I thankful for the holiness of God (that I could never attain to in my own effort) imputed to me by the death and resurrection of Jesus?

Pray today’s Scripture back to God:
Dear Father in Heaven, I know I am in no position to serve You by my own merit or effort. Thank You for the Lamb of God, whose blood washes away my sin, Jesus Christ! Thank you that He became sin for me, that I might become the righteousness of God in Him! Amen!

Pray to BLESS!
One good way to pray for people is to use the acronym BLESS to pray for God’s blessing on every area of their lives:

  • B – BODY (physical health)
  • L – Labor (their job or school)
  • E – Emotions (emotional health as well as guarding against letting emotions rule)
  • S – Social (relationships with family, friends, co-workers, neighbors, church, etc)
  • S – Spiritual (remaining true to God and growing in Him)

Spend some time praying for the following people and ministries:

  • Deborah Halkola
  • David & MaryBeth Hollander (Cole, Marcus, Jack, Emma, Lucy)
  • Fred Leonard
  • Dan & Jenn Loeschke

  • Chrysalis Women’s Transitional Housing

  • Pray that we would be a church that is dedicated to the breaking of bread, both in the sense of being devoted to observing the Lord’s Supper, and in meeting together for meals to fellowship, to deepen bonds, to heal offenses, and to end disputes.

Community: Pray for County leaders…

  • Commissioners, Assessor, Coroner, Treasurer, Clerks, Judges, Prosecutors, Defenders, Sheriffs
  • that they would make sound financial decisions
  • that they would all be faithful in carrying out their duties justly
  • that they would submit themselves to God

Operation Christmas Child:

  • Pray for the National Leadership Team volunteers who work with local churches to distribute the shoe boxes and to implement “The Greatest Journey.”
