Observation

While we are no longer under the letter of the law, what principles can we learn from this chapter about those who owe us money, our obligation to the poor, and how we should treat those who work for/under us?

Application

Am I more concerned with helping my spiritual siblings or with making sure they pay me every penny I am owed? Am I generous to those in need, or hardhearted and tightfisted? Do I treat those under my authority with dignity, respect, and loving care?

Prayer

Pray today’s Scripture back to God:
God my Father, Help me to forgive debts that are owed me, caring more about serving and helping my brothers and sisters in need than about being reimbursed. Give me a heart that is generous to those in need, and may I never be hardhearted and tightfisted. Help me to treat those under my authority with dignity, respect, and loving care, passing along the love, grace, and mercy that You have shown me. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Pray to BLESS!

One good way to pray for people is to use the acronym BLESS to pray for God’s blessing on every area of their lives:

  • B – BODY (physical health)
  • L – Labor (their job or school)
  • E – Emotions (emotional health as well as guarding against letting emotions rule)
  • S – Social (relationships with family, friends, co-workers, neighbors, church, etc)
  • S – Spiritual (remaining true to God and growing in Him)

Spend some time praying for the following people and ministries.

  • Dustin and Amy Barton
  • Debbie Brueggemann
  • Michelle Caldwell
  • Kathi Carr
  • Loran “Bud” Clark

Ministry:

  • Compassion International

CLF:

  • That we will be devoted to evangelism and growth; that the Lord will add to our numbers those who are being saved.

Community: Pray for your neighbors…

  • That God would provide opportunities for you to minister to them
  • That unbelievers would receive Christ as Savior and Lord
  • For their marriages / family relationships
  • For their finances / employment
  • Any specific needs of which you’re aware

Operation Christmas Child:

  • Pray that God will use Operation Christmas Child to bring joy to boys and girls who are facing poverty, sickness, or war.
