Deuteronomy 19

Observation

What measures did God implement for accidental manslaughter? What was the God-given penalty for intentional murder? What did God command regarding property rights and perjury? What do these laws teach us regarding the balance of justice and mercy?

Application

Do I go too far in sacrificing justice for the sake of mercy, or vice versa? Do I vote for and support civic and governmental leaders who do their best to strike the proper balance between justice and mercy? Do I show the mercy that has been extended to me by God to those who wrong me? Do I seek justice for those who are persecuted and cannot stand up for themselves?

Prayer

Pray today’s Scripture back to God:
Heavenly Father, Far too often I want You to exercise mercy for me and justice for everyone else. Give me a heart like Yours, that weighs the motive and intent and balances justice with mercy. Guide me by Your Spirit to select candidates who will do likewise. Help me to show mercy, grace, and forgiveness to those who wrong me, and to seek justice for the poor and oppressed who cannot stand up for themselves. I pray this in the Name of Jesus, Amen!

Pray to BLESS!
One good way to pray for people is to use the acronym BLESS to pray for God’s blessing on every area of their lives:

  • B – BODY (physical health)
  • L – Labor (their job or school)
  • E – Emotions (emotional health as well as guarding against letting emotions rule)
  • S – Social (relationships with family, friends, co-workers, neighbors, church, etc)
  • S – Spiritual (remaining true to God and growing in Him)

Spend some time praying for the following people and ministries:

  • Dakota “Koty” & Kayla Molner
  • Corey & Sheryl Morasch
  • Cody Morgan
  • Kyle Morgan
  • Mark & Michelle Morgan
