John 12

Click here to read today’s passage on Bible Gateway

Why is Jesus pleased with Mary’s action? What was Jesus’ heart attitude regarding the trials He was about to confront? Why did many who believed in Jesus keep quiet?

Have I worshiped God extravagantly in any way lately? What can I learn from Jesus’ statement when His heart was troubled? In what ways do I sometimes show that I love the praise of men more than the praise of God?

My God and Father, I want to worship You extravagantly as Mary did when she poured the perfume on Jesus’ feet. Help me to spare no expense with my time, money, praise, and resources in worshiping You. I praise You, Father, that through Jesus every prophecy concerning The Messiah was fulfilled. As we see in this passage, the words You spoke through the prophets of old became reality in Christ. I, too, declare: “Hosanna! Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord! Blessed is the King of Israel!” Lord, I come today like the Greek people in this passage–I want to see You; to know You more fully. I thank You that, for my sake, like a kernel of wheat You died, to produce life in me. Help me not to be a person who loves my life too much and loses it, but rather someone who is willing to lay it down for Your sake without hesitation. I choose to serve You and follow You. Help me to do so in a way that honors Your Father and He will honor me. Lord Jesus, just as You did not say, ‘Father, save Me from this hour’ but instead said ‘Father, glorify Your name’, help me to seek the Father’s glory more than my own deliverance from the trials and tribulations of life. Thank You that You followed Your Father’s will all the way to the cross for me. Make me willing to do the same for You. Guide my steps and help me always to walk in Your light and put my trust in You. Let me never seek the praise of men more than the praise of God; help me to speak boldly for You. Just as You did, help me to always say what the Father commands, for He is the source of eternal life. Amen

Pray to BLESS!
One good way to pray for people is to use the acronym BLESS to pray for God’s blessing on every area of their lives:

  • B – BODY (physical health)
  • L – Labor (their job or school)
  • E – Emotions (emotional health as well as guarding against letting emotions rule)
  • S – Social (relationships with family, friends, co-workers, neighbors, church, etc)
  • S – Spiritual (remaining true to God and growing in Him)

Spend some time praying for the following people and ministries:

  • Mike & Jamie Haberkorn (Hannah, Sean)
  • Deborah Halkola
  • David & MaryBeth Hollander (Cole, Marcus, Jack, Emma, Lucy)
  • Fred Leonard
  • Dan & Jenn Loeschke

  • Chrysalis Women’s Transitional Housing

  • Pray that we would be a church that is dedicated to the breaking of bread, both in the sense of being devoted to observing the Lord’s Supper, and in meeting together for meals to fellowship, to deepen bonds, to heal offenses, and to end disputes.

Community: Pray for your neighbors…

  • That God would provide opportunities for you to minister to them
  • That unbelievers would receive Christ as Savior and Lord
  • For their marriages / family relationships
  • For their finances / employment
  • Any specific needs of which you’re aware

Operation Christmas Child:

  • Pray for the National Leadership Team volunteers who work with local churches to distribute the shoe boxes and to implement “The Greatest Journey.”
