John 14

How does Jesus comfort His disciples? Why is the fact that Jesus and the Father are one so important to Christian doctrine, faith, and practice? What does the end of this chapter teach us about the Holy Spirit?

How can reminding myself that Jesus has a place prepared for me in eternity help me to persevere through life’s difficulties and turmoil? If I truly believe that if I ask anything in Christ’s name according to God’s will He will do it, how will that impact my prayer life? The Holy Spirit is with me at all times–am I allowing Him to counsel, lead, guide, teach, and comfort me? In what specific ways to I need to submit to Him?

Pray today’s Scripture back to God:
Dear Heavenly Father, do not let my heart be troubled. I trust in You, and I trust in Jesus. I thank You that Jesus has prepared a place for me in Your house for eternity, and that He will come back and take me there one day so that I can be with You! I thank You, Jesus, that You have provided everything I need to be with You–that You are the Way, the Truth, and the Life, and no one can come to the Father except through You. Because I know You, I know the Father. I thank You that if I ask anything of the Father in Your name, You will do it, to the glory of the Father. Help me to show You that I love You by following Your commands. Thank You for sending the Holy Spirit, who is with me and lives in me. Thank You that because You live, I also will live. Thank You for loving me and showing Yourself to me through Your Word and Your Spirit. Help me to listen to the Spirit, to respond to His leading, and to learn from His teaching. Thank You for the peace You give me, so that my heart won’t be troubled and I needn’t be afraid. Amen.
