Romans 15

How are we to be like Christ in dealing with the failings of others? Why did God give us the written Old Testament? What is Paul’s motivation and inspiration? Why was the collection for needy believers in Jerusalem such a priority for him?

How well do I show the love of Christ in accepting those weaker in the faith than I? Do I study the whole counsel of God, including the Old Testament? What is my ambition in life, and how does it compare to Paul’s?

Pray today’s Scripture back to God:
Dear Heavenly Father, I ask for Your strength and guidance in dealing with and bearing with those who are weak. May I seek to build them up, for even Christ didn’t please Himself, but took my insults upon Himself. I thank You that Scripture was written to teach us, so that through endurance and its encouragement we might have hope. Oh God who gives endurance and encouragement, I ask that You would give Your people (including me!) a spirit of unity as we follow Jesus, so that with one heart and voice we may glorify You, the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. Help me to accept other believers, then, just as Christ accepted me, in order to bring praise to You. Thank You that Jesus became a servant of the Jews on behalf of Your truth, to confirm the promises made to the patriarchs so that the Gentiles may glorify You for Your mercy. May Your name be praised among both Jews and Gentiles. I ask that You may fill me with all joy and peace as I trust in You, so that I may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit. I ask that You would fill me with Your goodness and make me complete in knowledge and competent to instruct others through my study of Your Word and devotion to prayer. Make me willing to listen to and learn from other Christians, too. I pray that I would be an offering acceptable to You, sanctified by the Holy Spirit. May I ever glory in Christ Jesus in my service to You, Father. Help me to guard my tongue and not to speak of anything except what Christ has accomplished in me, and to obey You in word and deed through the power of the Holy Spirit. Make my ambition to fully proclaim the Gospel wherever You lead me. I ask that You would give me a heart that is generous and pleased to contribute to fellow believers in need around the world. By the love of Christ and of the Spirit, prod me to join those on the mission field by praying for them. I ask that they would be rescued from unbelievers who would try to harm them, and that their service would be acceptable to the saints wherever they are, and acceptable to You. May Your peace be with them. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
