1 Samuel 1

Click here to read today’s passage on Bible Gateway

Why was Hannah so sad? What happened at the time of the annual sacrifice that added to her grief? What relieved her despondence (18)? What ultimately brought her joy? What did she do (24-28)?

Where do I derive my self-worth? How do I respond when God denies my requests or waits a long time to grant them? How can Hannah’s story comfort and encourage me? Is there something in my life I need to give up and trust to God? Is there something in my life I need to dedicate to Him?

Pray today’s Scripture back to God:
Father in Heaven, Thank You for being a God who is near to the brokenhearted and Who draws near to and exalts the humble. Thank You that, though it took a long time, You answered Hannah’s request. Help me to trust You and accept Your answers to my requests, whether they be yes, no, or wait. Help me to be a person who speaks the encouragement of Your Word into the lives of people who are grieving and losing hope, and please bring people into my life to do that for me when I become despondent. May I look to You in prayer and trust in times when I feel anguish and resentment, and when You answer my prayers, may I always give You all the glory and worship You. I dedicate all that I am and all that I have to You for Your purposes and for Your glory. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

Pray to BLESS!

One good way to pray for people is to use the acronym BLESS to pray for God’s blessing on every area of their lives:

  • B – BODY (physical health)
  • L – Labor (their job or school)
  • E – Emotions (emotional health as well as guarding against letting emotions rule)
  • S – Social (relationships with family, friends, co-workers, neighbors, church, etc)
  • S – Spiritual (remaining true to God and growing in Him)

Spend some time praying for the following people and ministries.

  • Debbie Brueggemann
  • Michelle Caldwell
  • Kathi Carr
  • Loran “Bud” Clark

  • Compassion International

  • That we will be devoted to evangelism and growth; that the Lord will add to our numbers those who are being saved.

Community: Pray for Unity in the Body of Christ…

  • that we would be united in our love for Jesus and each other
  • that we would encourage and support each other
  • that we would focus on Biblical principles in every arena of our lives
  • that we would have a spirit of cooperation in outreach

Operation Christmas Child:

  • Pray that God will use Operation Christmas Child to bring joy to boys and girls who are facing poverty, sickness, or war.
