Scripture

2 Samuel 7

Click here to read today’s passage on Bible Gateway

Observation

What did David desire to do? While God denied his request, how did He demonstrate His faithful love for David? How did David respond?

Application

Do I seek to do things for God that He does not want or ask of me? Do I trust in God and am I overwhelmed by His covenant of faithful love?

Prayer

Pray today’s Scripture back to God:
Dear Father God, Help me to seek what You would have me do for You rather than try to come up with something myself. Give me a heart that is overwhelmed and awed by Your eternal covenant of grace and faithful love through Jesus Christ! I pray this in Jesus’ Name, Amen!

Pray to BLESS!

One good way to pray for people is to use the acronym BLESS to pray for God’s blessing on every area of their lives:

  • B – BODY (physical health)
  • L – Labor (their job or school)
  • E – Emotions (emotional health as well as guarding against letting emotions rule)
  • S – Social (relationships with family, friends, co-workers, neighbors, church, etc)
  • S – Spiritual (remaining true to God and growing in Him)

Spend some time praying for the following people and ministries.

  • Dustin and Amy Barton
  • Debbie Brueggemann
  • Michelle Caldwell
  • Kathi Carr
  • Loran “Bud” Clark

Ministry:

  • Compassion International

CLF:

  • That we will be devoted to evangelism and growth; that the Lord will add to our numbers those who are being saved.

Community: Pray for the poor & imprisoned

  • Salvation
  • That they will trust in God’s provision
  • For sound financial management by city officials
  • That they will have hope
  • For godly mentors in the prison/jail system

Operation Christmas Child:

  • Pray that God will use Operation Christmas Child to bring joy to boys and girls who are facing poverty, sickness, or war.

Catechism

Question 2: What is God?

Children’s Answer: God is the creator and sustainer of everyone and everything.

Adult’s Answer: God is the creator and sustainer of everyone and everything. He is eternal, infinite, and unchangeable in His power and perfection, goodness and glory, wisdom, justice, and truth. Nothing happens except through Him and by His will.

Memory Verse

Psalm 86:8-10,15 (HCSB)

Lord, there is no one like You among the gods, and there are no works like Yours. All the nations You have made will come and bow down before You, Lord, and will honor Your name. For You are great and perform wonders; You alone are God. But You, Lord, are a compassionate and gracious God, slow to anger and rich in faithful love and truth.
