2 Samuel 11

Click here to read today’s passage on Bible Gateway

What was David’s first mistake on the path to his great sin (1)? What steps did he take that could have been prevented? How did he compound his sin in an attempt to cover it up? What was God’s opinion of David’s actions (27)?

Do I allow laziness and idleness to put me into temptation’s path? Do I make a conscious effort to stop sin at each step in the process, or do I intentionally continue down a sinful path? Do I attempt to use further sins to cover up my sin? Do I recognize that God considers this evil?

Pray today’s Scripture back to God:
Father God, Help me to learn from David’s great sin, so as not to make the same error. Keep me from shirking my duties and so, through idleness and laziness, giving the devil a foothold. When I see something that tempts me to sin, strengthen me to turn away from it rather than to gaze at it and covet and fantasize. Keep me from intentional sin, and especially from compounding it to try to hide it. Remind me of how seriously you take it, and help me to view it as You do–as evil. I ask this in Jesus’ Name, Amen!

Pray to BLESS!
One good way to pray for people is to use the acronym BLESS to pray for God’s blessing on every area of their lives:

  • B – BODY (physical health)
  • L – Labor (their job or school)
  • E – Emotions (emotional health as well as guarding against letting emotions rule)
  • S – Social (relationships with family, friends, co-workers, neighbors, church, etc)
  • S – Spiritual (remaining true to God and growing in Him)

Spend some time praying for the following people and ministries:

  • Dakota “Koty” & Kayla Molner
  • Corey & Sheryl Morasch
  • Cody Morgan
  • Kyle Morgan
  • Mark & Michelle Morgan

  • Christian Pro-Life Ministries in Idaho (Idaho Chooses Life, Stanton Health Care, etc)

  • That we will devote ourselves to prayer, individually, in small groups, and as a church.

Community: Pray for Mountain Home…

  • That city leaders would submit to God
  • That people can find and keep gainful employment
  • For sound financial management by city officials
  • Salvation for unbelievers
  • For the mayor, city council members, and public works officials
  • For the air base: safety for military and their families (especially those who are deployed), sound military strategies by commanders, impact for Christ in areas where deployed

Operation Christmas Child:

  • Pray for God to provide the wisdom, resources, and volunteers needed to oversee this expanding global outreach to children.

Question 2: What is God?

Children’s Answer: God is the creator and sustainer of everyone and everything.

Adult’s Answer: God is the creator and sustainer of everyone and everything. He is eternal, infinite, and unchangeable in His power and perfection, goodness and glory, wisdom, justice, and truth. Nothing happens except through Him and by His will.

Memory Verse

Psalm 86:8-10,15 (HCSB)

Lord, there is no one like You among the gods, and there are no works like Yours. All the nations You have made will come and bow down before You, Lord, and will honor Your name. For You are great and perform wonders; You alone are God. But You, Lord, are a compassionate and gracious God, slow to anger and rich in faithful love and truth.
