Luke 6

What do verses 1-11 teach us about what is important to Jesus regarding religious observances? How are we to treat people who mistreat us?

Do I get caught up so much in the letter of the law that I fail to fulfill its spirit? Do I respond to people who mistreat me with love and prayer or with hatred and spite?

Pray today’s Scripture back to God:
Dear Father in Heaven, Thank You for Jesus, the Lord of the Sabbath. Thank You that He is more concerned with being kind and loving and meeting our needs than with religious rites and ceremony. Grant that I may have the same attitude. Thank You that, though I may be mistreated, hated, and abused in this world, in Christ I am eternally blessed. Help me to keep that eternal perspective when I am being wronged, and may I not respond in kind. Rather, help me to respond with love and prayer. Keep me from a superiority complex that is judgmental and condescending. Instead, remind me that were it not for Jesus, I would be eternally condemned and without any redeeming qualities whatsoever. Strengthen me to live a life that bears good fruit, impacting this world for You and Your coming kingdom. Grant that I would ever build my life on the rock-solid foundation of Your Word–the written Word and the living Word, Jesus Christ my Lord. In His name, I ask these things. Amen.

Pray to BLESS!

One good way to pray for people is to use the acronym BLESS to pray for God’s blessing on every area of their lives:

  • B – BODY (physical health)
  • L – Labor (their job or school)
  • E – Emotions (emotional health as well as guarding against letting emotions rule)
  • S – Social (relationships with family, friends, co-workers, neighbors, church, etc)
  • S – Spiritual (remaining true to God and growing in Him)

Spend some time praying for the following people and ministries.

  • Dustin and Amy Barton
  • Debbie Brueggemann
  • Michelle Caldwell
  • Kathi Carr
  • Loran “Bud” Clark

  • Compassion International

  • That we will be devoted to evangelism and growth; that the Lord will add to our numbers those who are being saved.

Community: Pray for marriages in our community…

  • that Christ-like love would be exhibited
  • for good communication between spouses
  • for unity in finances
  • salvation for non-believing spouses
  • that they would balance work and home life
  • that Godly friends and mentors would come alongside them.

Operation Christmas Child:

  • Pray that God will use Operation Christmas Child to bring joy to boys and girls who are facing poverty, sickness, or war.
