What is the point of the parables of the sower and the lamp? What is the common theme in the miracles narrated in this chapter?

Do I receive the Word of God with a heart that is like fertile soil, or is my heart like hard, gravelly, thorny ground? Do I truly have faith in Christ to believe that He is able to accomplish whatever needs to be accomplished in my life to fulfill His purpose and destiny for me?

Pray today’s Scripture back to God:
Oh God my Father, Grant that I would ever be open and sensitive to Your Word and Your Spirit’s leading. May I be one of Your true family members–those who hear Your Word and put it into practice. And may my lamp shine brightly so others can see You in me. Jesus, You calmed the storm with a simple word; You delivered a man from a legion of demons with just a word; You raised a dead girl with just a word; You healed a sick woman when she simply touched the hem of your robe. Forgive me for all the times I forget Your power and live in doubt and worry. Give me strength to put all my trust in You to provide for all my needs, just as You promised. I ask it in Your Name, Amen.

Pray to BLESS!
One good way to pray for people is to use the acronym BLESS to pray for God’s blessing on every area of their lives:

  • B – BODY (physical health)
  • L – Labor (their job or school)
  • E – Emotions (emotional health as well as guarding against letting emotions rule)
  • S – Social (relationships with family, friends, co-workers, neighbors, church, etc)
  • S – Spiritual (remaining true to God and growing in Him)

Spend some time praying for the following people and ministries:

  • Roger & Andrea Gabel; Tom
  • Steve & Gloria Gangwer
  • Doug Gates
  • George Gifford
  • Scott & Kristi Guinn (Josiah)

  • J & G Simon, missionaries to Greece

  • Ask that we would be a church that is devoted to true fellowship: Pray that we would be encouraged from being united with Christ, comforted by His love, bonded with His Spirit, tender and compassionate with one another. Pray that we would be like-minded, having the same love, being one in spirit and purpose. Ask that we would do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit, but in humility consider one another better than ourselves, looking not only to our own interests, but also to the interests of each other. Pray that we would all have the same attitude as that of Christ Jesus.

Community: Pray for your neighbors…

  • That God would provide opportunities for you to minister to them
  • That unbelievers would receive Christ as Savior and Lord
  • For their marriages / family relationships
  • For their finances / employment
  • Any specific needs of which you’re aware

Operation Christmas Child:

  • Pray that the boxes will open doors for children to hear the Good News in parts of the world that are typically closed to proclaiming the Gospel.

Children’s Answer: By loving Him and by obeying His will, commands, and law.
