1 Kings 20

What news from God did the prophet bring to Ahab just before battle, and why? What strategy did the king of Aram’s advisers suggest? What happened as a result of following that strategy? Why did God punish Ahab for releasing Ben-hadad?

Do I believe that God is more powerful than all the world’s combined forces? Do I fall into the trap of thinking that God is somehow limited by time, space, or other restrictions and conditions? Do I believe that all the strategies of men, nations, and Satan will ultimately fail before God? Do I often follow my own plan in place of God’s, resulting in dire consequences for myself and others?

Dear Father in heaven, When I am facing overwhelming odds, remind me that You are God Almighty, and all the forces of the universe combined cannot compete with Your power for even one millisecond. When the battle changes location or the enemy changes strategies, remind me that Your power doesn’t change because of circumstances and conditions. When it seems that Satan and the wicked men and nations of this world are defeating Your people and Your will, remind me that all of their schemes and strategies will ultimately come to nothing. And when I am tempted to trust my own wisdom instead of Yours, remind me of the dire consequences that may very well come as a result, not just for myself, but potentially for many others. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.

Pray to BLESS!
One good way to pray for people is to use the acronym BLESS to pray for God’s blessing on every area of their lives:

  • B – BODY (physical health)
  • L – Labor (their job or school)
  • E – Emotions (emotional health as well as guarding against letting emotions rule)
  • S – Social (relationships with family, friends, co-workers, neighbors, church, etc)
  • S – Spiritual (remaining true to God and growing in Him)

Spend some time praying for the following people and ministries:

  • Roger & Andrea Gabel; Tom
  • Steve & Gloria Gangwer
  • Doug Gates
  • George Gifford
  • Scott & Kristi Guinn (Josiah)

  • J & G Simon, missionaries to Greece

  • Ask that we would be a church that is devoted to true fellowship: Pray that we would be encouraged from being united with Christ, comforted by His love, bonded with His Spirit, tender and compassionate with one another. Pray that we would be like-minded, having the same love, being one in spirit and purpose. Ask that we would do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit, but in humility consider one another better than ourselves, looking not only to our own interests, but also to the interests of each other. Pray that we would all have the same attitude as that of Christ Jesus.

Community: Rural towns in Treasure Valley – Emmett, Greenleaf, Homedale, Marsing, Middleton, New Plymouth, Parma, Payette, Wilder, Weiser, etc…

  • That city leaders would submit to God
  • That people can find and keep gainful employment
  • For sound financial management by city officials
  • Salvation for unbelievers
  • For the mayor, city council members, and public works officials

Question #12: What does God require in the ninth and tenth commandments?

Children’s Answer: Ninth, that we do not lie or deceive. Tenth, that we are content, not envying anyone.

Adult’s Answer: Ninth, that we do not lie or deceive, but speak the truth in love. Tenth, that we are content, not envying anyone or resenting what God has given them or us.
