1 Chronicles 17

Click here to read today’s passage on Bible Gateway

What did David want to do for God? What did God say about that? What did God then say to David and what promises did He make? How did David respond?

Do I try to serve and honor God in the way that I want, or in the way that He wants? Am I willing to set aside my dreams and plans for ministry and worship if they are not what God wants, or if He wants someone else to do them? Am I thankful that God honors my intent to please Him, even when I may be misguided about how to go about it? Am I thankful for God’s overwhelming grace?

Pray today’s Scripture back to God:
Dear Father God, Sometimes I make plans to honor and serve You in ways that You either don’t want, or You do want but have someone else in Your will to do them. Thank You that if it comes from a heart that desires to honor You, You are still pleased with my intent, and help me to respond as David did, in humility, obedience, and praise for Your amazing grace! In Jesus’ name, Amen!

Pray to BLESS!
One good way to pray for people is to use the acronym BLESS to pray for God’s blessing on every area of their lives:

  • B – BODY (physical health)
  • L – Labor (their job or school)
  • E – Emotions (emotional health as well as guarding against letting emotions rule)
  • S – Social (relationships with family, friends, co-workers, neighbors, church, etc)
  • S – Spiritual (remaining true to God and growing in Him)

Spend some time praying for the following people and ministries:

  • Mike & Jamie Haberkorn (Hannah, Sean)
  • Deborah Halkola
  • David & MaryBeth Hollander (Cole, Marcus, Jack, Emma, Lucy)
  • Fred Leonard

  • Operation Christmas Child

  • Pray that we would be a church that is dedicated to the breaking of bread, both in the sense of being devoted to observing the Lord’s Supper, and in meeting together for meals to fellowship, to deepen bonds, to heal offenses, and to end disputes.

Community: Pray for Teachers & Administrators & School Boards

  • Godly curriculum
  • God’s wisdom in teaching and leading
  • Salvation for unbelievers
  • Ability to inspire a love of truth and learning

Question #30: What is faith in Jesus Christ?

Children’s Answer: receiving and resting on him alone for salvation as he is offered to us in the gospel

Adult’s Answer: Faith in Jesus Christ is acknowledging the truth of everything that God has revealed in his Word, trusting in him, and also receiving and resting on him alone for salvation as he is offered to us in the gospel.

Memory Verse

Galatians 2:20 (HCSB)

And I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I now live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me.
